Release Window for House of the Dragon Season 2 Announced, while Filming Begins for Another Game of Thrones Spinoff

HBO has revealed that the second season of House of the Dragon will premiere in "early summer" of 2024. Casey Bloys, the studio boss, confirmed this release timeframe during a media event on Thursday, where exclusive footage from Season 2 was also shown. However, the press was not allowed to disclose any details of what they witnessed, as reported by Variety.

Additionally, Bloys announced that production for another Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, is scheduled to commence in Spring 2024. It is worth noting that this date is subject to potential changes due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Filming for House of the Dragon was not halted during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes as the actors belonged to a separate labor union. The scripts were finished before filming began, and showrunner Ryan Condal played the role of producer while being present on set.

Premiering in August 2022, House of the Dragon proved to be a resounding success for HBO. The company has expressed that Season 2 will be remarkable and adhere to a more conventional storytelling structure. Additionally, it has been confirmed that Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, in contrast to the ten episodes of Season 1.
