The SAG-AFTRA strike's impact on Hollywood is becoming increasingly evident, with Disney being the latest company to significantly adjust their plans in response to the production halt. One notable consequence is the postponement of the live-action Snow White adaptation, starring Rachel Zegler, by a full year. Originally scheduled for release on March 22, 2024, the film will now debut on March 21, 2025. Anticipated to be one of Disney's flagship movies of the year, this adaptation holds great significance as the House of Mouse's first-ever full-length animated feature film. Alongside Zegler, the movie features Gal Gadot in the role of the Evil Queen, who expressed her excitement in bringing to life this iconic and original villain from Disney's magical collection of fairy tales.
"It was an absolute delight to portray the Evil Queen in this fairy tale. There was a certain charm to this character, being the very first Disney villain. Since it's a musical, I had the opportunity to push the boundaries of my performance, adding more drama and animation. I had so much fun exploring different aspects, including altering my voice. It was an incredibly enjoyable experience, and I am eagerly looking forward to watching the final result."
What's 'Snow White' About?
At the start of this week, Bob Iger of Disney and other top Hollywood CEOs communicated to SAG-AFTRA that they are rapidly approaching a crucial juncture. They must soon decide which movies to delay if an agreement cannot be reached between the two parties. Insider sources suggest that this deadline is fast approaching, with the first week of November, potentially even as early as November 1, serving as the pivotal point.
In the original animated movie, Snow White's (Adriana Caselotti) evil stepmother, the Evil Queen, became desperate when her enchanted mirror (Moroni Olsen) informed her that Snow White had become more beautiful than her. So, she cleverly disguised herself as an old lady and deviously offered Snow White a poisoned apple. The rest, as they say, is history.
Martin Klebba will play the character of Grumpy, one of the seven dwarfs, in the upcoming live-action adaptation. At first, he will display a sense of distrust towards Snow White. In the animated film, the original character's voice was provided by Pinto Colvig. In addition, Andrew Burnap will undertake a new role in the film. The movie is directed by Marc Webb, who is most recognized for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man films featuring Andrew Garfield.
