AMC has recently revealed the highly-anticipated release date and teaser for The Walking Dead spinoff, titled The Ones Who Live.
The Ones Who Live follows the adventures of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), the beloved protagonist from the original show, and the breakout character Michonne (Danai Gurira). Set after the events of The Walking Dead series finale, this project marks the sixth addition to the franchise's canon.
Not much is known about the plot of The Ones Who Live at this point. However, fans speculate that the spinoff will provide more information about what Rick and Michonne were up to during the final episode of The Walking Dead, 'Rest in Peace'. There are also some fans who believe that Rick will lose his hand in The Ones Who Live, but AMC representatives have not addressed these rumors publicly yet.
Therefore, fans will have to wait until the debut of The Ones Who Live to find out the truth, but luckily, they won't have to wait long.
Walking Dead’s most anticipated spinoff finally gets release date
Indeed, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live finally has a concrete release date – Sunday, February 25, 2024 – thanks to a new “sneak peek” video circulated by AMC.
The teaser, spanning 36 seconds, provides minimal details about The Walking Dead spinoff. Primarily featuring interviews with Lincoln and Gurira, it offers a glimpse into their thoughts and insights. Lincoln teases, "In The Ones Who Live, our goal is to uncover some answers."
Is a Walking Dead series revival happening?
"It's an incredibly thrilling tale to share," Gurira declares. The actress also emphasizes the intense connection between Rick and Michonne in the Ones Who Live preview, describing their romance as undeniably passionate. "These two individuals possess immense strength, and when they unite, it becomes mind-blowing," she exclaims. "This is the epitome of a wild love."
Some fans are speculating that AMC will revive the original show of The Walking Dead to address the unresolved storylines, due to the increasing number of spinoffs like The Ones Who Live. Nevertheless, Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead franchise, recently stated at New York Comic Con 2023 that there are currently no plans for such a revival, although he expressed openness to the idea.
