AMC’s Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Recent News
Exciting news awaits fans of Rice! The franchise is forging ahead, ensuring that her beloved characters and captivating stories will be brought to life on the small screen for the foreseeable future. With a total of 13 books in The Vampire Chronicles series and three books in the Lives of the Mayfair Witches series, there are countless tales waiting to be told. Interview with the Vampire delves into the captivating journey of immortal vampire Lestat and his transformed companion, Louis. Although the AMC series made slight alterations to the characters and timeline, it faithfully preserves the essence of Rice's novels. As Interview With The Vampire embarks on its second season, the show promises to uphold the same undeniable charm that has captivated audiences so far.
The news about season 2 of Interview With The Vampire is not surprising considering the current situation, but it is nonetheless disappointing. AMC has halted production for Interview With The Vampire season 2 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. As a result of the strike, the actors are unable to work on the series. While the WGA strike previously caused delays by restricting any form of writing, rewriting, or ad-libbing, the SAG-AFTRA strike has completely shut down production (via Deadline). It is worth noting that Interview With The Vampire season 2 is being filmed outside of the United States and features an international cast, which adds an intriguing aspect to the situation.
AMC’s Interview With The Vampire Season 2 is Confirmed
Some shows and movies, like HBO's House of the Dragons, have chosen to film outside the United States when the majority of their cast members are from different countries. Similarly, Dune: The Sisterhood is also continuing its production with international actors and has not forced SAG-AFTRA actors to return to work if they are not part of the union.
News of The Interview with the Vampire season 2 renewal came in September 2022, even before the first season began airing. This demonstrated AMC's dedication to the Anne Rice shared world. Not only did AMC give the show the green light for a second season, but it also announced a crossover between Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, a logical move considering they coexist in the same universe. Additionally, AMC has plans for a third spin-off series within the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, focusing on the Talamasca organization.
AMC’s Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Release Date
The production of The Interview with the Vampire season 2 has been significantly impacted by the SAG-AFTRA strike, leading to a delay in its release date. Filming for the second season commenced in April 2023 and was initially planned to conclude by August 31. This timeline was intended to align with an AMC release at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, coinciding with the premiere of the first season. However, due to the strike forcing a halt in production since July, and with over a month of filming yet to be completed, it is highly unlikely that the show will meet its anticipated 2023 release date, resulting in a postponement to 2024.
AMC’s Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Cast
Back for season 2 of Interview with the Vampire are the original stars, Jacob Anderson as the tragic protagonist Louis de Pointe du Lac, and Sam Reid as the vampire antihero Lestat de Lioncourt. Although the first season ended with Louis and the child vampire Claudia supposedly killing Lestat, fear not! Both Louis and Lestat will return and continue to be the central characters throughout season 2 of Interview with the Vampire.
Eric Bogosian will reprise his role as journalist Daniel Molloy, although his tenure may not be as long as the other actors. One character who will become increasingly significant in future seasons is Assad Zama's Armand, an ancient vampire who plays a crucial role in the Vampire Chronicles series. Additionally, Ben Daniels (known for his work in The Crown) will join the cast as Santiago, a formidable adversary for Louis.
In a significant change for the second season of Interview with the Vampire, Bailey Bass, who portrayed Claudia, the young vampire girl turned by Lestat, will not be returning. Bass expressed that unforeseen circumstances prevented her from continuing with the series but wished the production success in the future. Taking over the role is British actress Delainey Hayles.
AMC’s Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Story Details
Regrettably, due to unforeseen circumstances, I am unable to reprise my role in Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire for the second season. Portraying Claudia has been an absolute dream and an exhilarating journey. I extend my heartfelt wishes to Delainey as she takes on this role, hoping for her tremendous success.Initially, it seemed plausible that the narrative of Interview with the Vampire could encompass an entire book within each season. However, this turned out to be a misconception. Instead, the first season only managed to recount half of the story from the first book. Consequently, the plot of Interview with the Vampire will conclude the remaining portion of the first book prior to progressing further into the series. Notably, the first season concluded on a suspenseful note as Claudia succeeded in persuading Louis to aid her in eliminating Lestat, thereby enabling their escape from his grasp. Regrettably, Louis was unable to carry out the deed, ultimately saving Lestat by confining him within a locked coffin in a rat-infested dump. This course of action allowed the vampire to gradually recuperate and regain his strength over time.
It is intriguing to note, in the initial season, Louis deceived the reporter Daniel by concealing significant aspects of his narrative. This raises numerous inquiries as it casts doubt on Louis' reliability as a narrator, leaving viewers uncertain about the accuracy or truthfulness of his words, at least on the surface. While those familiar with the books anticipate a forthcoming tragedy in the second season, there is uncertainty about whether it will unfold similarly in the AMC series or if there will be a deviation. Moreover, the final revelation in Interview with the Vampire season 1 that Rashid is actually Armand from the novels introduces an entirely new dimension to the world portrayed in Interview with the Vampire season 2.
