Regina King stole the show at the Shirley premiere in Los Angeles on March 19 by adding a modern twist to the classic black dress. The 53-year-old actress looked stunning in a dress that showed off her legs, complete with gold halter straps and ruching on the side. The most eye-catching detail of her outfit was a flowing train attached to a metallic chain bracelet on her wrist. To complete the look, she wore chrome pumps by Le Silla and styled her hair in cornrows that transitioned into box braids, with platinum highlights that matched her ensemble.
King went for a glamorous look by enhancing her eyes with bold eyeliner and shimmering eyeshadow. She complemented it with bronzed cheeks and a subtle pink lip.
At the red carpet event, King was seen striking poses both alone and alongside her Shirley costars Lucas Hedges, Dorian Missick, Christina Jackson, and Brad James. She also took pictures with her sister, Reina King, who was a producer on the film.

The film depicts Shirley Chisholm's groundbreaking 1972 presidential campaign. She was a trailblazer, being the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black woman to seek the presidency. (Chisholm passed away at the age of 80 in January 2005.)
Regina faced a significant challenge while filming Shirley. The production coincided with her grieving the loss of her son, Ian, who tragically took his own life at the age of 26 in January 2022.
She found it challenging to finish the movie, but she felt it was important to do so in honor of Ian, as she shared with Harper’s Bazaar in her March cover story.
In her interview with the publication, she expressed, “I believe Ian would have wanted me to see the project through, even though it was tough. It felt like a way to pay tribute to him. We all made it to the end with Ian’s guidance leading the way.”
Ian was the only child of Regina and her ex-husband, Ian Alexander. The pair wed in 1997 and divorced a decade later.
