Red Dead Redemption is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on August 17, but it's not a remaster and lacks new content.
Fans have been eagerly waiting for years for a native PS5 release, an Xbox version, or even a PC version of the game. Unfortunately, their wait continues as the game will not be released on these platforms. Additionally, it is expected that the re-release will not include the original game's beloved online multiplayer feature, which might disappoint fans who found joy in playing it.
Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare expansion will be available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on August 17, thanks to Rockstar Games and Double Eleven Studios. There have been rumors circulating for quite some time that Rockstar was planning to release a remastered version or even a full remake of the 2010 classic, but it appears that these rumors were only partially true.
From what has been shown so far, it seems that this new iteration of Red Dead Redemption is not exactly a remaster. It is more of a slightly improved port that brings the open-world western to modern platforms. However, it may confuse some fans as this new version of Red Dead Redemption will not be released on major platforms and will be priced at $49.99, despite being over a decade old and lacking significant new content.
When is Red Dead Redemption 1 Coming to Switch?
: Rockstar's release plans for Red Dead Redemption have left fans confused. On August 17, PS4 and Switch gamers can digitally acquire the game, while the physical release is set for October 13. Unfortunately, there won't be a native PS5 version, but players can still enjoy it on the latest Sony console through backward compatibility. Xbox players, on the other hand, won't have a dedicated version, although they can play the original Xbox 360 version on modern consoles. Disappointingly, there won't be a PC release of Red Dead Redemption with this rerelease, despite years of fan requests. It appears that PC gamers will have to continue patiently waiting for it.Thursday, August 17 (Digital)
Friday, October 13 (Physical)
The re-release of Red Dead Redemption appears to be missing a crucial component: online multiplayer. The announcement fails to mention multiplayer and instead emphasizes the inclusion of the original single-player experiences. Fans who enjoyed the online multiplayer mode may be disappointed that it seems to have been overlooked in this port.
While many Red Dead Redemption fans will undoubtedly be disappointed by this news, it is still exciting that John Marston's adventure will now be accessible on Switch and PlayStation consoles. Additionally, the inclusion of the Undead Nightmare expansion is a pleasant addition. However, it remains uncertain if this will be enough to satisfy fans who had hoped for a PC port or a more extensive remaster.
Red Dead Redemption is available now for PS3 and Xbox 360 with PS4 and Switch versions coming August 17.
