The success of the Kickstarter campaign has enabled Ratatan to reach 18 stretch goals, guaranteeing the addition of new features and content to the game. With the backing of nearly 12,000 supporters, Ratatan has become one of the highest-funded games in Kickstarter history, with just a few stretch goals left to achieve as the campaign nears its end.
The Kickstarter campaign for Ratatan, a spiritual successor to the popular game Patapon, is reaching its stretch goals, ensuring that the game will be released on multiple platforms with additional content. Ratatan has achieved full funding and is one of the most successful Kickstarter projects in recent years. Thanks to the funding, several new features will be added to the game. Developed by Pyramid and Sony's Japan Studio, Patapon gained a cult following on the PlayStation Portable due to its unique rhythm-based controls. Despite no new entries in the series since 2011, Sony released remasters of Patapon and Patapon 2 for PlayStation 4 in 2017 and 2020, which kept the demand for the game alive. However, with the closure of Japan Studio in 2021, the chances of a new Patapon game seemed slim. Fortunately, the talented team behind the Patapon series came together to form Ratata Arts, the studio behind Ratatan, which is now being funded on Kickstarter.
The Ratatan official Kickstarter page has been recently updated to reflect the achievement of 18 stretch goals since the launch of the campaign on July 31. As of August 30, the funds raised for Ratatan on Kickstarter have exceeded $1,243,000, surpassing the initial funding goal by over a million dollars. These funds ensure the release of Ratatan on various platforms, including PC and consoles such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. With the majority of the stretch goals accomplished, Ratata Arts will now focus on developing exciting new content for Ratatan, which includes a secret ending, a mini-game, an additional rarity level, Hard mode, Dark Ratatans, and enhanced customization options.
With nearly 12,000 backers, Ratatan has become the 43rd most funded game in Kickstarter history. As the Kickstarter campaign comes to a close on Friday, September 1 at 12:00 PM ET, only four stretch goals remain. One of these involves a collaboration with Keiichiro Toyama, a former developer at Japan Studio who is currently leading the development of Slitterhead at Bokeh Game Studio. If the campaign reaches a total funding of $1,297,000, Toyama will join the Ratatan studio to contribute to its development.
Ratatan is highly regarded as one of the most promising Kickstarter campaigns in recent times. The developers are committed to delivering a high-quality game on all platforms. Ratata Arts aims to have all aspects of the game completed by April 2025, and a Steam beta test is planned. Once the funding period ends this Friday, Kickstarter backers and fans can expect a plethora of updates on Ratatan.
Ratatan is currently scheduled to release in April 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
