Omni-Man Is a Would-Be Dictator Pretending to Be a Superhero in 'Invincible'

In the shocking conclusion of the pilot episode of Invincible Season 1, Omni-Man commits a brutal massacre, killing his colleagues within The Guardians of the Globe, which are the equivalent of the Justice League or The Avengers in the Invincible universe. Government agent Cecil Stedman and demon detective Damien Darkblood quickly discover that Omni-Man is responsible for the deaths, but they are unaware of his motive. The reason behind Omni-Man's actions is finally revealed in the Season 1 finale, when he kills the resurrected Guardian survivor Immortal for the second time, in front of Mark. Omni-Man confesses that his home planet Viltrum and its inhabitants are not the peaceful society he claimed them to be. In reality, they are ruthless conquerors who have been expanding their fascist empire for centuries, using any means necessary. Omni-Man admits that he killed The Guardians because they posed the greatest threat to Viltrum's plan to conquer Earth.

Mark is appalled by this revelation, while Omni-Man persists in his desire for Mark to join him in conquering the planet. The onlookers are stunned by Omni-Man's contempt for Earth and humanity, as he goes as far as describing Mark's mother, Debbie, as more of a "pet" rather than a wife. Filled with rage and repulsion, Invincible retaliates against his father, resulting in a catastrophic battle where Omni-Man ruthlessly uses Mark to slaughter numerous innocent civilians. Despite beating Mark within an inch of his life, Omni-Man has a moment of recollection about their once peaceful family life, causing him to stop himself and fly off into space. One of the things I love most about Invincible is its characters. Mark Grayson is a relatable and likable protagonist, and I enjoyed watching him grow and develop over the course of the season. The supporting cast is also great, with characters like Omni-Man, Debbie Grayson, and Allen the Alien all making memorable impressions.
