Shortly after Sylvester Stallone wrapped up filming “Rocky,” the movie that kickstarted his Hollywood journey, he spotted Gregg Allman from the Allman Brothers Band. Allman had dozed off, leaving his arm dangling in the aisle with a striking gold watch on his wrist.
Stallone was mesmerized by the watch, calling it the “most beautiful thing” he had ever laid eyes on. This encounter ignited a passion for watch collecting that would last for decades.
Now, a Hollywood star is putting 11 watches from his own collection up for auction at a Sotheby's event in New York on June 5. One of the watches included is the rare Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, which experts believe could sell for up to $5 million. Additionally, there are watches that he wore in his movies being auctioned as well.
The Grandmaster Chime is a highly sought-after timepiece because only seven of them were ever created. It is considered to be the most complex wristwatch ever produced by the renowned luxury watch brand.
Sotheby’s called it the “holy grail” for watch collectors because of its extremely complex mechanisms that required 100,000 hours to create.

The watch boasts 20 complications, which are functions that do more than just tell time. Some of these include five chiming mechanisms and a date repeater that audibly announces both the date and time.
Stallone mentioned, "It wasn't easy to get my hands on this. I had to reach out to the right people, write numerous letters to the board, and finally, it was decided that I would be the proud owner of one of these exquisite pieces of art."
The watch also includes other memorabilia, such as a presentation box with Stallone's name engraved on it, along with an iPad and Airpods, each housed in a Patek Philippe case.
Another Patek Philippe watch, this time from the Nautilus collection, is anticipated to fetch up to $400,000. It boasts an olive-green dial, adorned with 32 Wesselton baguette diamonds, all enclosed in a stainless steel case.
Several other famous watchmakers are also featured in the auction, with some of the models being worn by Stallone on screen.
One of the highlights is a Rolex watch from 2016, celebrating the 60th anniversary of a model that was the first to show the day and date separately. It is expected to fetch around $50,000.
Meanwhile, a watch made by Audemars Piguet featuring a blue face inside a pink gold case is estimated to fetch up to $200,000.

Among the watches up for bidding is a special model created specifically for Stallone, complete with a commemorative engraving on the back. This exclusive piece is anticipated to fetch a price of around $60,000.
