Summary
Producers are open to the idea of making a Rambo 6 if there is a demand from the fan base and the right conditions are met.
Sylvester Stallone's age may make it impractical for him to portray an action hero in another Rambo film, making a prequel with a fresh actor a more viable choice.
Although Rambo: Last Blood delivered a fitting conclusion for the character, if fans and financiers desire a comeback, the producers are open to creating Rambo 6 and devising a method to reintroduce the iconic character.
Producers cautiously update on the potential for a sixth installment of Rambo, acknowledging that it is still a possibility under specific circumstances. Sylvester Stallone, after his successful portrayal of Rocky in 1976, introduced another iconic character, John Rambo, in the 1982 film First Blood. Similar to the enduring presence of Rocky Balboa, Rambo appeared in subsequent films in 1985, 1988, and 2008, before supposedly bidding farewell in 2019's Rambo: Last Blood.
However, according to producers Kevin King-Templeton and Les Weldon, Rambo may not have made his final appearance in the 2019 film. While discussing their latest action-packed project led by Stallone, Expendables 4, the duo expressed their interest in potentially reviving the renowned action movie character. Nevertheless, they emphasized that certain conditions would need to be met before they could proceed. Read Weldon's comments below:
Rambo: Last Blood Gave The Character An Appropriate Ending
The same. Rambo. We are currently involved in various franchises and are considering future opportunities. Additionally, we have new projects in the pipeline. Ultimately, our decision to pursue these ventures depends on the demand from our fan base. This is why we are bringing back the Expendables. At times, Kevin and I may express uncertainty about the possibility of another installment. However, when the demand arises, with fans and buyers alike continuously asking, we take the initiative to develop and deliver a product that meets their expectations. Rest assured, we are committed to providing them with what they desire. It is possible that fans and investors alike may show an interest in another Rambo sequel, prompting producers to embark on the development of such a project. However, it remains uncertain if Stallone, at the age of 77, would realistically be able to portray an action hero. In contrast, the 81-year-old Harrison Ford was digitally rejuvenated for his return to the well-known Indiana Jones franchise in the recent film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Nevertheless, the process of de-aging is costly, and Rambo 6 would not have access to the financial resources of Disney.
A more realistic approach to bringing back the character could be creating a Rambo prequel with a new actor portraying a younger version of the character before the events of First Blood. Stallone himself has suggested exploring the character's early life and the traumatic experiences he had in Vietnam. The older version of the character was given a fitting conclusion in Last Blood, surviving one final battle before the film showcased a captivating montage of highlights from the franchise. Ending the character's story there would be the best choice from a narrative perspective, but it appears that if there is enough demand from fans and financial backers, producers may consider making a Rambo 6 and finding a way to bring the character back.
