Lies Of P stands out from FromSoftware's recent games with its unique elements. The city of Krat, despite its decrepit state, is a fascinating place to explore. The story hints at a puppet uprising caused by a breaking of The Grand Covenant, similar to the governing rules in the movie I, Robot. However, Lies Of P's uniqueness extends beyond its story. The combat and weapons in the game are equally exceptional. In terms of gameplay, Lies Of P shares similarities with FromSoftware's Bloodborne, with a focus on aggressive combat and limited defensive options. But when it comes to weapons, Lies Of P is in a league of its own.
Lies Of P Allows Players To Dismantle And Remake Weapons
The Lies Of P demo offers a total of five obtainable weapons. Players have the option to choose the Puppet's Saber, Wintry Rapier, and Greatsword of Fate as their starting builds, or they can purchase them later with Ergo, the in-game currency. The Electric Coil Stick becomes available for purchase at a later stage, while the Krat Police Baton requires players to defeat a challenging enemy. Each of these weapons consists of blades and handles, which can be used and repaired using the Grinder tool.
This is where the depth of Lies Of P's weapon system becomes evident. Players can interact with a Stargazer (similar to Dark Souls' bonfires) or speak with the NPC Eugenie at the Hotel Krat to dismantle weapons and create unique combinations using their blades and handles. The blade of a weapon determines its attack and guard stats, attack type, and primary Fable Art that can be used in battles. On the other hand, handles determine the weapon's moveset, stat scaling, and secondary Fable Art. Additionally, players can provide Eugenie with upgrade materials to strengthen their weapons and adjust their scaling based on their Pinocchio's Motivity, Technique, and Advance stats.
Weapon Crafting Addresses The Lack Of Armaments In Bloodborne And Limited Customization Options Of Dark Souls' Weapons
In Lies Of P, players have the unique ability to dismantle weapons and combine their parts, resulting in a wide range of possibilities for customization. By incorporating the best features of different weapons and aligning them with a specific build, players can create their own one-of-a-kind armament. For example, it is possible to merge the blade of the Greatsword of Fate with the handle of the Electric Coil Stick, while also adjusting its scaling to the Advance stat.
While Bloodborne's trick weapons offer transformation options, their limited quantity may not cater to everyone's preferences. On the other hand, Dark Souls and Elden Ring boast a vast array of weapons, but many of them share similar movesets. Lies Of P strikes a balance by providing a moderate selection of melee choices, yet each weapon possesses greater intricacy and individuality. This aspect encourages players to explore various weapon parts and craft their own weapons for defeating puppets.
Lies of P launches September 19, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
