Princess Diana made a lasting impact on many people, including her brother, Charles Spencer, who recently shared a cherished memory of his beloved sister.

Spencer, who is 59 years old, offered fans a glimpse into his childhood with Diana by posting a rare photo of the two of them together. Diana passed away in 1997 at the young age of 36.

In a throwback photo shared on Instagram on Friday, March 1, Spencer reminisced about a moment with his mother, Diana, and himself back in around 1967. At that time, he would have been 3 years old, and Diana would have been 5 or 6. The black and white snapshot captured the joy on each of their faces.

The picture showed Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, with a big smile as he sat on a swing. Standing beside him, Diana also had a huge grin. In the photo, Spencer was dressed in a collar shirt, shorts, and sandals with socks, while his sister wore a white T-shirt, high-waisted shorts, and flip flops.

Spencer's late mother, Frances Shand Kydd, was dressed casually in a T-shirt, shorts, and lace-up shoes.

He shared that during the time the picture was taken, his mother affectionately nicknamed him "Buzz" because she thought he had the boundless energy of a cheerful and busy bee. It was a stage in his life that he remembered fondly.

Diana and Spencer are two of five children who were born to the late John Spencer, 8th Earl of Spencer, and Kydd. The Spencer family also consists of sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, as well as a brother named John Spencer, who unfortunately passed away shortly after his birth in 1960.

In 1969, John was granted sole custody of his four children after divorcing Kydd. He sadly passed away in 1992 at the age of 68 due to a heart attack. Kydd also faced health challenges and passed away in 2004 at the age of 68 after a long battle with cancer and Parkinson's disease.

Diana's older sisters, despite coming from a noble background, have mostly stayed away from public attention. In the 1970s, Sarah had a short relationship with King Charles III and is known for introducing him to Diana.

“I introduced them,” Sarah told The Guardian in 1981. “I’m Cupid.”

Diana and Charles got married in 1981 and had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, born in 1982 and 1984. They got divorced in 1996 after separating in 1992.

Sarah married Neil McCorquodale in 1980 and they have three children together.

Jane, the second eldest Spencer daughter, is also connected to the royal family. In 1978, she married Robert Fellowes, who was the late Queen Elizabeth II’s then-assistant private secretary. The couple has three children.

Charles, on the other hand, is the most public of the Spencer siblings after his late sister Diana. He is a historian and author. Charles has seven children in total, with four from his first wife, Victoria Lockwood, two from his second spouse, Caroline Freud, and one from his current wife, Karen Gordon.

In July 2021, Diana’s three siblings joined William, 41, and Harry, 39, to celebrate what would have been her 60th birthday. They all gathered at Kensington Palace to reveal a statue honoring Diana.
