Prince Harry delighted and thanked the dedicated Invictus Games volunteers in a surprise meeting before the 2023 Dusseldorf Games kick-off A heartwarming gesture by the prince!

Prince Harry surprised organizers by making his first public appearance at the 2023 Invictus Games. The foundation, through a note on Saturday, September 9, informed that the Duke of Sussex visited the international team of volunteer categorizers responsible for assessing competitors at the Invictus Games. This team, led by @weareinvictus, ensures fair competition in recovery.

The 38-year-old prince appeared joyful as he wore his Invictus polo shirt and took a photo alongside the event's team members. Scheduled to commence later this month, the 2023 games will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Harry, who is one of the founders of the Invictus Games, created this international sporting event to support and celebrate military veterans who have been wounded, injured, or fallen ill. Since its inception in 2014, the Duke of Sussex has consistently attended and actively participated in the annual games.

“No one desires sympathy. They all crave a chance to demonstrate their abilities, and that is precisely the essence of this competition,” Harry expressed regarding the competition on Good Morning America in 2016, drawing from his personal experience on the battlefield. (Harry, having completed two tours of duty in the British army, eventually retired with the rank of captain.)

Following their 2018 wedding, Meghan Markle, the 41-year-old former actress, has been a regular presence by Harry's side at the games. With two children together, Meghan is also anticipated to accompany him at the upcoming Düsseldorf event.

In a statement to We last month, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan shared, "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are thrilled to announce their participation in the Invictus Games 2023 in Düsseldorf. The Duke will be present throughout the entire duration of the games, and The Duchess will join him shortly after its commencement."

This year's games coincide with the release of Harry and Meghan's Archewell Productions' documentary, "Heart of Invictus," on Netflix. The film chronicles the journey of five veterans as they train to participate in the 2020 Invictus Games following their service to their respective countries.

In "Heart of Invictus," Harry emphasizes that while there may be differing opinions on what constitutes a just war, the detrimental impact of war on countless individuals is universally acknowledged.

Harry shared more about his personal journey after serving in the armed forces. He revealed that returning from Afghanistan triggered memories and emotions stemming from his mother Princess Diana's tragic car accident in 1997 when he was just 12 years old. The impact of losing his mother at such a young age and the resulting trauma were things he had never fully acknowledged. Conversations about it were rare, and he, like many young people, had buried those feelings deep within himself.

The author of Spare mentioned the positive impact therapy had on his ability to deal with the trauma. However, when all the emotions started pouring out, he found himself feeling overwhelmed and bouncing off the walls. He expressed confusion and a shift from a state of emotional numbness to being fully in touch with his feelings.
