Prince Harry is working to ensure his safety when he visits his home country with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children. His legal team began a three-day hearing in London on Tuesday, December 5, to challenge a decision made by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) in February 2020. This decision removed Harry's automatic right to police security in the U.K. after he stepped down from his role as a senior royal.
Without appearing in court, Harry, 39, expressed his regret for having to step back from his royal role and leave the UK in 2020. According to ITV, his lawyers shared a statement in which he emphasized the importance of the UK as his home and a central part of his children's heritage. He expressed his desire for his children to feel at home in the UK, as they currently do in the United States, but stressed the need for their safety while on UK soil.
He continued: “I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have only traveled to the U.K. once since their relocation to California in 2020. Their family of four made the trip for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 and also celebrated their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, their former residence.
Following their decision to step back from their senior roles, Harry and Meghan have been vocal about their negative experiences within the royal family. In a revealing CBS interview in March 2021, Meghan shared that a member of the royal family had expressed concerns about how dark Archie's skin would be before his birth.
The controversy resurfaced recently when the Dutch version of Omid Scobie's book Endgame was reportedly misprinted with details about the royal family members involved in the conversation about Archie's skin color, leading to the book being pulled from shelves. Scobie has since denied that he named any names in the version he wrote.

"In regards to the English version of Endgame, my involvement was limited to writing and editing, so I can only speak to that particular manuscript. The two individuals who participated in the conversation are not named in this version," he stated to People. "I am pleased to learn that the mistake in the translation of the Dutch edition is being addressed."

Scobie stated that William, aged 41, feels that Harry and Meghan caught the family off-guard and is certain that Harry has been influenced by a group of therapists so much so that William can no longer relate to his younger brother.
