Scotland manager Steve Clarke reaffirmed his desire to include Elliot Anderson in the team and did not dismiss the possibility of pursuing Harvey Barnes, following the friendly match against England on Tuesday. The talented Anderson, hailing from Whitley Bay, has represented Scotland in youth competitions but remains eligible to represent England.
The 20-year-old had a two-day stint with Scotland last week but later pulled out from the squad. England manager Gareth Southgate has expressed his admiration for the Newcastle midfielder and mentioned that his team will address the situation.
Southgate commented, "We have a positive opinion of him and continue to hold it. We believe he is a talented player who is performing admirably."
He was clearly invited to join the Scottish squad earlier this week, and I am currently unaware of his status. However, I have learned that he has withdrawn from the squad.
This matter will be addressed by our organization, including FA Technical Director John McDermott and others. It is important to note that he is certainly a player we admire.
During his pre-match press conference prior to Scotland's friendly against England, Clarke expressed his admiration for the player and acknowledged that Elliot would still have the freedom to make his own decision.
Once this camp concludes, I will evaluate our progress, analyze the events that have transpired, conduct a debriefing, and subsequently determine our course of action.
Barnes to switch allegiance to Scotland?

Anderson's teammate, Barnes, is rumored to be contemplating a change in allegiance after representing England in a friendly victory against Wales three years ago.
When questioned about Barnes, Clarke responded, "I would advise considering that at a later time."
"We strive to acquire the most exceptional players available. If they meet the criteria to represent Scotland, and there exists a possibility for them to join our team while enhancing the current squad – which is quite challenging...
"But I understand the narrative surrounding this, as we prepare to face England, you naturally want to discuss Elliot and Harvey."
"I quite like speaking about the boys I have got because they have put us in a really good position and they deserve a lot of credit for that."
'Scotland don't need to be concerned'
We News reporter Luke Shanley:
"If somebody doesn't want to play for Scotland then don't play for Scotland because this Scotland team is going places.
"If you choose not to join in, that's perfectly alright.
"It's understandable if anyone doesn't feel at ease or is unwilling to participate in Scotland's journey to Germany. It's a personal choice."
Scotland's depth in that particular position is abundant, alleviating any worries Steve Clarke may have. Scott McTominay, an invaluable asset to the Scottish team, has been performing exceptionally. Notably, he has been consistently scoring goals, proving his significance in this campaign.
Although not native to Scotland, McTominay exhibits a strong affinity for the country. His desire to represent Scotland is evident, even though he does not receive extensive playing time at Manchester United. Nevertheless, once he dons the Scotland jersey, his prowess becomes evident. Undoubtedly, McTominay is currently the standout performer for the Scottish national team.

Southgate plays down Ferguson links
Clarke will be relatively at ease. In case someone is unwilling to participate, then they should simply refrain from doing so. Scotland should not become excessively worried. If Gareth Southgate chooses him, then it's great for him and he can proceed with it."Southgate downplayed speculation about Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson being a target for England, citing his extensive experience at the senior level. The Brighton forward, born in Bettystown but with an English mother, seemed to be ruled out by Southgate.
"He now has eight international appearances. While I cannot be certain if he is unable to represent another country, he has strongly expressed his affinity for Ireland and has proudly played for their national team. I fully support his decision, as he is undeniably a talented player. It is important to honor and acknowledge him, as he has not indicated any indication of a change in his loyalty.
Simultaneously, we had our eyes on Erling Haaland, who hails from Yorkshire, and hoped he would also be available. However, we are content with our exceptional number nine, Harry Kane."
