PlayStation has notified users that it will no longer integrate with X, the platform previously referred to as Twitter, in the near future. Starting from November 13, all features related to X will cease to work on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This includes the capability to access and share content, trophies, and gameplay-related activities on X from PS5/PS4 or linking an X account for such purposes.
Other options for sharing game captures on the PS5 and PS4 exist. PS5 users have the option to use the PlayStation App, while PS4 owners can utilize the ShareFactory app. However, this may not be satisfactory for individuals who were fond of the X/Twitter integration. PlayStation's decision follows Microsoft's removal of the ability to share content to X in April. Additionally, World of Warcraft's in-game Twitter integration was disabled in February 2023.
It is believed that Elon Musk is responsible for the recent changes on PlayStation and Xbox. Following his acquisition of Twitter in October 2022, the social media platform underwent significant and contentious transformations. Among these changes was Musk's implementation of a fee for developers to access the site's API. Enterprise users are reportedly required to pay a minimum of $42,000 per year, with costs increasing accordingly.
Additionally, in PlayStation-related updates, the slimmer version of the PS5 will be available for purchase this month and will serve as the new standard model for the console moving forward. The larger launch model is gradually being phased out.

As an enthusiastic fan of gaming and technology, I have mixed feelings about the discontinuation of Twitter/X support on PS5. On one hand, I understand the business decision behind this move. Twitter's recent changes under Elon Musk's leadership have been controversial, and it makes sense for PlayStation to distance itself from a platform that is facing uncertainty. On the other hand, I am disappointed that I will no longer be able to share my PS5 gameplay and trophies on Twitter as easily as before.
The integration between PlayStation and Twitter/X was a convenient way for me to share my gaming experiences with my friends and followers. I could easily capture and share screenshots and videos of my gameplay, as well as my latest trophy achievements. This made it easy for me to stay connected with my gaming community and share my passion for gaming with others. The removal of this integration is a step backward in my opinion, and I hope that PlayStation will find a way to bring it back in the future.
