A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player used a unique strategy to defeat Venusaur the Unrivaled in a single strike, using their Magikarp to land the finishing blow. They shared their strategy on social media along with a video of the battle.
Venusaur, known as the Seed Pokemon, is the first of three consecutive Seven-Star Tera raid battles announced during a Pokemon Presents broadcast on Pokemon Day. Players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have until the evening of Tuesday, March 5, to challenge this powerful Kanto starter Pokemon, which has the Ground-type as its Tera type. Despite its Ground-type in battle, Venusaur the Unrivaled can quickly overpower unprepared teams by starting with Sunny Day and Growth to boost its strength, followed by Petal Blizzard, a powerful Grass-type move that can defeat Pokemon with weak defenses.
Venusaur The Unrivaled Gets One-Shot By A Magikarp
Though some strategies for taking down Venusaur have become popular, one Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player returned to using the methods that gave them a reputation. A Reddit user named Nommable123 posted a video on the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit of their successful attempt at defeating Venusaur with their prized Shiny Magikarp as the star. Similarly to their Blaziken Tera raid strategy, Nommable123 had three other Pokemon take the field in supporting roles. These Pokemon were Medicham, Golduck, and Thundurus. These Pokemon's roles were to take down Venusaur's defenses, buff the Magikarp after Venusaur used its stat-resetting maneuver early in the fight, and use healing cheers if needed.

The OP shared their strategy for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera raid battles. They mentioned how Venusaur's Sunny Day was countered by Golduck's Cloud Nine, weakening Petal Blizzard. Thundurus and Golduck then used Eerie Impulse and Screech to lower Venusaur's stats, while Medicham focused on boosting defenses with Light Screen and Defense Cheer. Magikarp was buffed with Swagger and Skill Swap, using Flail to charge up Tera energy for its teammates. Finally, Magikarp delivered a knockout blow to Venusaur after Terastallizing.
