Jason Kelce’s Philadelphia Eagles pulled out a swift win against brother Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs.
The teams met at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Monday, November 20, for the first time since the Chiefs defeated the Eagles at Super Bowl LVII in February. After a closely contested match, Philadelphia emerged victorious with a 21-17 score, marking the first time that Jason, 36, had defeated Travis, 34, since they joined their respective teams.
Both the Chiefs and Eagles entered the game as leaders in their divisions. The Chiefs gained an early advantage with a goal from Justin Watson. However, Eagles star D'Andre Swift equalized the score with a 33-yard run, including a 4-yard touchdown rush.
Travis, the Chiefs' tight end, regained the lead for his team with a remarkable catch from quarterback Patrick Mahomes just before halftime, securing a 10-point advantage. However, a resurgent Jalen Hurts made a powerful comeback in the third quarter, rushing for a touchdown and narrowing his team's lead to only three points.
During the fourth quarter, Hurts passed the football to DeVonta Smith, leading the Eagles to score another touchdown and claim the top position. Despite the Chiefs' relentless offensive efforts, the Eagles' defense, supported by numerous dropped passes, successfully prevented Mahomes and his team from scoring again.
Monday's game marked a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, the previous encounter between both teams. In that previous matchup, the Chiefs emerged triumphant, defeating the Eagles by a score of 38-35 in February.
Prior to the game, Travis, aged 34, and Jason, aged 36, engaged in a conversation on their podcast titled "New Heights." Jason, who serves as the Eagles' center, highlighted that his team has never been able to secure a victory against the Chiefs since the brothers, the first siblings to compete in a Super Bowl, joined their respective teams.
Travis stated that the upcoming showdown in November should not be considered a Super Bowl rematch. Instead, he views it as a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. Despite any similarities, both teams have undergone changes, making it a completely different situation. Travis believes that the previous year's outcome holds little relevance in this context, not even considering it a year has passed.
Although Jason has consistently lost whenever they play against each other, he acknowledged that both players genuinely enjoy competing against one another. They also value the opportunity for their loved ones to come together for this significant event.
"There is a strong sense of familiarity within both organizations," Jason elaborated. "Many friends and family members eagerly anticipate and witness our joint participation in a game. Consequently, these aspects hold great significance to us, providing us with a week-long opportunity to relish and appreciate them."
