Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, professional dancers on Dancing With the Stars, announced the name of their second child on Wednesday, June 21. They named their newborn son "Rio John Chmerkovskiy." Murgatroyd, 36, shared the news on her Instagram, expressing their joy and gratitude for their growing family. She also mentioned that their first child, Shai Aleksander, is already embracing his role as a big brother. Their hearts feel full, and they are content with the beautiful life they have created.
The couple, who have a 6-year-old son named Shai, decided to name their newborn Rio, with the middle name John, in memory of Murgatroyd's father who passed away in December 2022. Murgatroyd, who is originally from New Zealand, gave birth to Rio on Father's Day and Chmerkovskiy, 43, proudly shared their first photo.
“Happy Father’s Day to me,” the Ukraine native captioned a Sunday Instagram photo as he held his newborn son. “#MadeInPeta.”

The couple, who got married in 2017, announced in January that they were expecting their second child. This news came after experiencing previous miscarriages and unsuccessful attempts with IVF.
When asked about her reaction upon learning she was pregnant, the founder of Peta Jane Beauty shared, "I wasn't exactly jumping for joy in the bathroom, eagerly waiting to share the news with everyone. It was more like a feeling of fear." She explained that it was a scary moment for her because she wasn't certain if the pregnancy would be successful. She wanted to protect herself emotionally and not let herself get too excited until it became a reality.
Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson had their first child named Rome. Rio, Val's nephew, was born nearly five months later. Maksim, Val's brother, expressed his excitement for the next generation of the Chmerkovskiy family, noting that Val's son and Maksim's own son share the same zodiac sign and are born six years apart, just like Val and Maksim.
"I have a remarkable photo that showcases the striking resemblance between myself and Val. In the picture, I am holding Val as a newborn while I was 6 years old. We juxtaposed this image with a recent one of my own 6-year-old son cradling Val's newborn son, and the similarities are truly astounding."
