Since the release of Persona 5 in 2016, the Persona series has gained immense popularity. With the success of Persona 5, it is almost certain that Persona 6 will be released in the future. While fans eagerly await the next installment, they can revisit older Persona games like Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, now available on various platforms. Additionally, players can immerse themselves in Persona 5 once again through its New Game Plus mode. Currently, little is known about Persona 6 as Atlus is focused on promoting their other Persona titles and working on spin-offs and remakes.
Although details about Persona 6 are scarce, it has been suggested that the theme of the game will be centered around the color green, leaving room for speculation. With a strong lineup of predecessors, Persona 6 faces high expectations and should strive to incorporate the best elements from previous entries while introducing fresh mechanics to distinguish itself. One notable feature that Persona 6 can expand upon is the New Game Plus mode, which has been well-received in Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5, and Persona 5 Royal.
How The New Game Plus Mode of Previous Persona Games Can Influence P6
New Game Plus in Persona allows players to embark on a second playthrough of the game with various benefits. These benefits include carrying over social stats, persona compendium, skill cards, items, money, and even bonuses like HP and SP boosts. However, the New Game Plus modes in these games offer more than meets the eye.
The main story of Persona 4 and Persona 5 is filled with memorable boss fights that keep the narrative engaging. However, these games are known for their length, which may deter some fans from considering a second playthrough. Luckily, Atlus addressed this issue tactfully by introducing secret boss battles in the New Game Plus Modes of Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5, and Persona 5 Royal.
In all the aforementioned titles, players engage in intense and challenging boss fights against the keepers of the velvet room, which require a high level of mastery in the games. In Persona 4 Golden, players can face off against Margaret in their second playthrough, while Persona 5 features a battle against Caroline and Justine after completing the first playthrough. Despite these fights being accessible in subsequent playthroughs, they serve as the ultimate final bosses of the stories due to their difficulty level. Going into these fights underleveled will undoubtedly result in the player's team being overwhelmed. Persona 5 Royal's New Game Plus adds even more excitement by including three secret boss fights: Jose, Caroline and Justine, and Lavenza. These encounters offer a thrilling experience and present a great challenge for dedicated fans of the series.
Even with a fresh approach, Persona 6 is expected to be just as long, if not longer, than Persona 5. This may discourage players from embarking on a second playthrough if there is no incentive to do so. Therefore, it seems logical for developers to strive for a more captivating New Game Plus in Persona 6 compared to its predecessors. Aside from featuring battles against the guardians of the Velvet Room, it could also potentially incorporate a hidden dungeon centered around these characters. To further enhance the excitement, Persona 6's second playthrough could even include boss fights against the Phantom Thieves or the leaders from past Persona titles.
