A new gameplay video for Persona 5: The Phantom X has unveiled two additional members to the already extensive Phantom Thief group. Persona 5: The Phantom X is a mobile and PC spin-off of the popular game Persona 5, which was first announced in March. Developer Atlus has partnered with Perfect World Games, a Chinese publisher, exclusively for this title. The game underwent its first beta test around the same time, with fans noting similarities to the original series formula but with a few notable differences.
Further details about the game were recently shared at the Tap Tap Games Festival, an event in China focused on mobile video games. Persona 5: The Phantom X was showcased at this festival. Perfect World Games had teased the game's appearance at the event earlier in July, with a silhouette hinting at the introduction of a new character who would join the player's party. This new gameplay presentation has now unveiled the identities of these two characters.
The showcase video unveils two new male party members who will join the Phantom Thieves. One of them is a physically fit student with blue hair and a rebellious appearance. He assists the protagonist in gym class and later awakens a Persona. His Phantom Thief outfit includes a cowboy hat, cap, and spurs, and he wields a minigun as his primary ranged weapon. His All-Out Attack splash screen highlights cowboy motifs, featuring a mountain range and sunset. His code name is "Soy."
The second playable character, referred to as "Leo," has slightly dirty blonde hair and wears an outfit reminiscent of a Super Sentai show. His Persona resembles something you would find in the Kamen Rider series. As a unique skill, Leo can summon bolts of energy from the sky. It remains unclear whether this ability is exclusive to Leo or can also be acquired by other Personas in Persona 5: The Phantom X.
The video also includes additional details, such as a cutscene featuring the main character of Persona 5: The Phantom X, Wonder, being collided into by a food delivery cyclist who quickly entered the train. Furthermore, there are scenes showcasing Wonder going on a movie date with Merope, players encountering a mysterious NPC in Mementos, and a second Palace inspired by the Tokyo Imperial Palace. Additionally, the video reveals that a new beta test will be conducted in Q3 2023, introducing new characters, areas, and stories.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is currently being developed for PC and Mobile devices.
