Summary
Rick Riordan has offered a tentatively hopeful update on Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2.
The writers strike is close to its conclusion, but there is still no official agreement in place, and the production for season 2 of Percy Jackson has not yet been approved. Riordan discloses that initial preparations have been made for season 2, and it is expected to follow a similar format as the first season.
Author Rick Riordan provided an update on Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. The book series is being adapted into a Disney+ show, with season 1 following the storyline of the original novel, The Lightning Thief. However, progress on future seasons was delayed due to the Writers Guild of America strike, which is nearly ending thanks to a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Riordan, in an interview with ComicBook, expressed hope for season 2 but mentioned that the deal still needs full approval and there has been no official announcement yet. Despite this, Riordan remains optimistic as they have made significant progress in the preliminary work for the season.
Percy Jackson Needs to Make It To At Least Season 3
I am uncertain of the current situation. It is still early to have any concrete information. We are awaiting confirmation from the WGA regarding the acceptance of the offer, and it will then proceed to a vote. The entire process, even without these obstacles, can be quite lengthy. However, it was inevitable. The actions taken by the WGA were justified, and I am relieved that it appears we are making progress towards a resolution. It is important to note that nothing has been officially approved or confirmed yet. Nevertheless, we did have an initial gathering of writers where we were able to outline the potential direction for Season 2, assuming it receives approval. Although it is uncertain, I am optimistic. I would presume that Season 2 would build upon the foundation laid in Season 1. We made significant progress during our preliminary discussions, and everyone seemed satisfied with the outcome. This is what I anticipate, but ultimately, only time will tell. The future of the Percy Jackson show's season 2 renewal relies on whether it can captivate enough audience interest. However, if it does receive a renewal, it won't truly become an independent project until it is also renewed for season 3. As Riordan teases, season 2 would probably adapt the second Percy Jackson book, 2006's Sea of Monsters.
Both The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters were adapted for the big screen in the early 2010s, starring Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson. Although the movies managed to exceed their budgets at the box office, they received negative reviews from critics, audiences, and even the author himself. As a result, the storyline of the first two seasons of the show will likely be familiar to those who have seen the original films.
However, with the new cast and longer run time of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the show will have the opportunity to tell the stories from the books in a different way than the movies. Season 3 will be where the show can truly break new ground, as it will be the first time that Book 3, The Titan's Curse, and the following three books are adapted for the screen. This will allow the show to spread its wings and explore uncharted territory, free from the shadow of any previous adaptations.
