Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola, will be missing the team's upcoming two Premier League games due to his recent back surgery in Barcelona. The Premier League champions have released a statement stating that Guardiola had been dealing with persistent back pain and had to undergo emergency surgery in Barcelona.
Guardiola's surgery was a success, but he will undergo further rehabilitation within the city. It is unlikely that the 52-year-old will return to the touchline for City until after the international break. Consequently, he will be absent for this Sunday's match against Sheffield United, which will be broadcast live on We. Additionally, he will also miss the upcoming game against Fulham on September 2.

Taking over in his absence, Juanma Lillo, who recently rejoined the club as assistant manager, will now assume responsibility for training sessions and guiding the treble-winning team during matches. This comes after his previous stint as the manager of Al Sadd in Qatar.
In September 2018, Man City had to manage without their manager as Pep Guardiola served a Champions League touchline ban. In his absence, Mikel Arteta took charge of the team, but unfortunately, City suffered a 2-1 defeat against Lyon in a crucial group-stage game.In early 2022, Guardiola was unable to participate in a FA Cup third round match against Swindon Town due to testing positive for the coronavirus. Similarly, his assistant Lillo was also unable to attend the game. As a result, assistant coach Rodolfo Borrell assumed control of the team. Despite the absence of 14 backroom staff members and seven first-team players who were in isolation due to Covid-19, City managed to emerge victorious with a 4-1 win.

Belgium's Jeremy Doku in action
City have reached an agreement for the signing of Rennes winger Jeremy Doku for £55.5m. The Belgian international is anticipated to undergo a medical in the northwest on Tuesday and is poised to join the reigning champions.
Man City seeks a winger to fill the spot left vacant by Riyad Mahrez's departure to Saudi Arabia following the team's triumphant haul of three titles. If Doku finalizes the transfer to the Etihad Stadium, he will become Pep Guardiola's third acquisition in this summer's transfer window, alongside Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol.
Doku scored for Rennes in their opening Ligue 1 game against Metz, following on from the six league goals he netted last season.
