Spotted: Penn Badgley channeling his inner lonely boy vibes on the set of the final season of You.
The 37-year-old actor, known for playing serial killer Joe Goldberg on the popular Netflix show, was captured in character while strolling the streets of New York City on Monday, March 25. He was dressed in a black peacoat, maroon shirt, and navy blue slacks, giving off a similar vibe to his previous character from Gossip Girl, Dan Humphrey. It was hard to miss the gold band on his left ring finger.
Netflix announced on Monday that filming for the final season of YOU has officially started. The streaming service shared a photo of Badgley on set with the caption, "Back to where it all began. The 5th and final season of YOU is now in production."
The previous season of the show, which aired in two parts last year, ended with Joe embracing his dark side and moving to New York City after a killing spree in London. He also found love with Kate Galvin-Lockwood, who accepted his violent tendencies. Shortly after season 4 premiered, Netflix revealed that there would be one more season to wrap up Joe's story.
Details about season 5 of the series have been limited so far. However, one exciting development is that Joe will have encounters with his in-laws before the season concludes. Griffin Matthews has been chosen to play Kate’s brother, Teddy Lockwood. Additionally, Anna Camp, known for her role in Pitch Perfect, will take on the roles of Reagan and Maddie Lockwood, Joe’s twin sisters-in-law. Madeline Brewer is set to play Bronte, a mysterious and free-spirited playwright who joins Joe Goldberg’s new bookstore. Michael Foley and Justin W Lo will now serve as co-showrunners, taking over from creator Sera Gamble.
Netflix unveiled the first teaser for season 5 in June 2023 at the Brazilian fan convention TUDUM. The teaser features Badgley speaking directly to the audience, creating excitement for the upcoming season.
As Joe makes his long-awaited return to New York, there are many familiar faces from his past that he will have to confront.
