Payday 3 developer Starbreeze has removed the anti-piracy software Denuvo from the PC version of the game, just a week before its release. In a Steam update, Starbreeze's global brand director, Almir Listo, announced the removal, stating, "Hello heisters, we want to inform you that Denuvo is no longer in PAYDAY 3. We look forward to seeing you in New York City! Happy heisting!"
The reason behind Starbreeze's early removal of Denuvo remains unclear, especially considering that the game will not be available to the general public until September 21st. However, players who purchased the Silver and Gold Editions of the game already have access to it due to the early access perk. Denuvo, an anti-piracy software, has a less-than-ideal reputation, but it is uncertain if this influenced the decision to abandon it just prior to the game's launch, as piracy is a significant concern for companies during this time. PC players generally have reservations about Denuvo due to its known negative impact on game performance, although Denuvo itself disputes these claims.
Starbreeze deviated from the conventional approach by introducing Denuvo just days prior to release, which is contrary to the usual practice followed by developers. Capcom had adopted this strategy with Street Fighter 6 in June, and Tango Gameworks had also followed suit with the Spider's Thread update for Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Payday 3 can be accessed on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, the game will receive numerous DLC updates in its first year after launch. These updates will comprise four DLC packs, offering seasonal events, skill lines, new weapons, and improvements to enhance the overall gaming experience.
