Actor Patrick Dempsey has been crowned this year's Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine. The unveiling took place on the latest episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" where audience members questioned Dempsey, whose voice and face were hidden, to guess his identity.
"I'm thrilled that they chose me this year," Dempsey told Kimmel. Continuing with a playful tone, Dempsey added, "When my family heard about my new title, they burst into laughter. They couldn't believe it and kept asking, 'No, really, who is it?'"
When the "Grey's Anatomy" actor was informed about the news, he expressed his reaction to People magazine in an interview released on Tuesday. He expressed being "completely shocked" and initially found it hard to believe. He even laughed, thinking it was a prank, as he had always been a supporting figure rather than the center of attention. He admitted that he had never even considered the possibility of being in this position and mentioned that he was not affected by it, indicating a healthy ego.
Dempsey gained popularity through his portrayal of Dr. Derek Shepherd in the enduring ABC series "Greys Anatomy." Additionally, he will be seen in the upcoming "Ferrari" biopic, where he plays the role of Piero Taruffi, an Italian race car driver. The film is set to release in December.
Dempsey succeeds Chris Evans as the newly crowned 2022 Sexiest Man Alive, as confirmed by Kimmel. When asked by Kimmel on Tuesday if Evans had reached out to "concede," Dempsey revealed they have not yet spoken.
"I am hoping when I get off stage tonight that Ill get a call," he said.
