Similar to her character on Modern Family, Claire Dunphy, Julie Bowen is also a fantastic mother. She recently revealed her top parenting tips, with a focus on social media. Bowen, 53, has set guidelines for her 16-year-old son Oliver, as well as her 14-year-old twins John and Gus, when it comes to using social platforms. These rules were established by Bowen, who shares her children with her former spouse, Scott Phillips.
Bowen explained that her children did not receive cell phones or access to social media until they were 14, and she is glad she waited. She emphasized the importance of children having a certain level of brain maturity to handle social media.
She believes that they need more time, as the prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed until a person is in their twenties. She makes sure to monitor her boys' social media accounts, although she acknowledges that they could have secret ones. Bowen aims to have conversations with her sons about ethical behavior and hopes they apply those values to their personal lives, although she admits there's uncertainty. In addition to her social media guidelines, Bowen has set dating standards for her sons.

According to Us, she commented, "They're very polite when it comes to girls. They bring girls over. I just tell them, 'Please be respectful and remember that you will always see this person.' No one just disappears. So, always behave as if you're going to see this person tomorrow. And never ever post anything, if you don't want me to see it."
In addition to her advice on dating and social media, Bowen also offers tips for parents with picky eaters at home.
“It's not so much a tip as it is a change in perspective,” she explained. “My sister, who's a doctor and had kids before me, told me, 'Don't focus on them having to eat a vegetable every day or fruits every day when all they want is mac and cheese or cereal. Look at it over the course of a week. If you can get some fruits and vegetables in them throughout the week, that's a win. Stop trying to make each day reach some impossibly perfect standard. They're going to be OK.”
One essential item in Bowen’s kitchen is Life Cereal, which she refers to as a “must-have” for breakfast, midnight munchies, and everything in between. Until Sunday, November 19, parents nationwide can dial Life Cereal’s hotline at 1-855-4-IFYKYK to share their top parenting tips or learn new advice from other callers, with the opportunity to swap ideas with Bowen herself.
