Paramount+ Pulls the Plug on 'Joe Pickett' After Two Seasons

'Joe Pickett' on Paramount+ met an unfortunate end after two seasons, leaving fans wondering about the reasons behind its cancellation Michael Dorman brilliantly portrayed the titular character in this intriguing series

Paramount+ has canceled Joe Pickett, an American neo-Western crime drama TV series, after its second season. Based on the novel by C.J. Box, the show was led by visionary directors John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle. The talented cast included Michael Dorman, Julianna Guill, Sharon Lawrence, and Paul Sparks.

Although Paramount Television Studios had a role in production, Spectrum Originals, commissioned by Charter Communications, originally created the series. Paramount Plus aired the show due to their streaming rights. However, the decision to cancel the show does not originate directly from the streaming platform.

Why Was ‘Joe Pickett’ Canceled?

The cancelation news follows Charter Communications' announcement in August 2022 regarding the closure of Spectrum Originals operations. While the show will still be available for streaming on the platform, this decision marks the end of its run. Joe Pickett's first season premiered on the streaming platform in December 2021, and Spectrum subsequently confirmed a Season 2 in February 2022.

Charter's decision to phase out Spectrum Originals was initially reported by Variety as a result of the cable provider's departure from producing original scripted series. Consequently, the beloved game warden from our dedicated series will not be returning for a third season, solely due to this shift. This decision to exit the scripted space was made following the departure of Katherine Pope, the former head of Spectrum Originals, who took over Sony Pictures Television from Jeff Frost.

Joe Pickett revolves around the life of its titular character, a game warden in the rural town of Saddlestring, Wyoming. The show follows his endeavors to enforce the law, protect the environment, and overcome various challenges, including local politics, socio-economic disparities, and threats to his family. Produced by Red Wagon Entertainment, with executive producers Doug Wick, Lucy Fisher, and author C.J. Box, the first two seasons of the show are still available for streaming on Paramount Plus in the U.S.

Editor's P/S

As an enthusiastic fan of "Joe Pickett," I am deeply saddened by the news of its cancellation after only two seasons. The show had so much potential, and I was eagerly looking forward to seeing where the story would go next. I feel that the show was just starting to hit its stride, and it's a shame that we won't get to see more of it.

I particularly enjoyed the character of Joe Pickett himself. He was a complex and well-developed character, and I found his journey to be both relatable and inspiring. I also appreciated the show's setting in the beautiful Wyoming wilderness. The cinematography was stunning, and it really helped to create a sense of place. Overall, I think "Joe Pickett" was a great show, and I'm disappointed that it's been canceled. I hope that one day, it will be picked up by another network or streaming service so that we can see more of Joe Pickett's adventures.
