The arrival of Season 5 in Overwatch 2 brings with it an array of exciting updates and improvements for players. The Battle Pass for this season, in particular, has undergone significant enhancements, making it one of the most impressive additions to the game thus far. With these changes, it seems that Overwatch 2 is taking a promising step forward in the right direction.
Previous seasons of Overwatch 2 have faced criticism regarding various aspects of their Battle Passes. Whether it be a lack of coherence in themes or underwhelming rewards, players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the unlocks provided. However, the Season 5 Battle Pass in Overwatch 2 addresses many of these concerns and introduces a fresh and captivating approach.
This season, Overwatch 2 embraces a brand-new fantasy theme, which is reflected in the hero skins introduced in Season 5. Gone are the days of random-looking skins; instead, players can enjoy 12 new hero skins that perfectly align with the fantasy game theme. Skins like Alchemist Mei, Rogue Kiriko, and Demon Lord Reinhardt seamlessly blend into Blizzard's high-fantasy video games, such as Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft, making them a perfect fit for the developer's most popular titles.
Overwatch 2’s Season 5 Skins Do It Right
Speaking of skins, Season 5 introduces a captivating progression system for unlocking Tracer's mythic skin. Unlike previous mythic skins, players will have the opportunity to gradually unlock three different stages of Tracer's new "Adventurer" mythic skin as they progress through the Battle Pass. This unique approach makes the journey of leveling up through each tier feel incredibly rewarding, even before reaching the final stage. By unlocking the skin in this manner, players are immersed in the sensation of character progression, reminiscent of leveling up a character in a fantasy RPG. This aligns perfectly with the overarching theme of the current season.
Questwatch is a Charming New Addition to Season 5 of Overwatch 2
In addition to the Season 5 Battle Pass, players can now experience the exciting Questwatch event. This unique narrative adventure takes players on a fantasy role-playing game campaign alongside some of the iconic heroes from Overwatch 2. As players make progress in the Battle Pass, they will unlock new quests and dialogues, adding an extra layer of engagement. This delightful addition allows dedicated fans and players to further interact with their beloved Overwatch heroes. Moreover, the fantasy/RPG theme is well represented in the sprays, player icons, emotes, and name cards available during the Questwatch event.
Questwatch does have its flaws, but there are a few areas where it could be enhanced to provide a more worthwhile experience for all players. Currently, the dialogue that is unlocked through leveling up mainly consists of plain text accompanied by the hero's image. While it is still enjoyable to read through the campaign, it would be far more captivating if the dialogue were fully voiced by the respective voice actors of the characters.
Additionally, incorporating some small Overwatch 2 PVE missions alongside the quest dialogue would be a valuable addition to the event. This would offer players the opportunity to select a hero from the campaign and bring along their friends for each mission. By introducing this feature, the inclusion of Questwatch becomes an enjoyable surprise for Overwatch 2 players and elevates this season's Battle Pass to a more entertaining level compared to previous iterations.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
