Highlights

Former WWE superstar John Cena has been revealed as Overwatch 2's Enigma, leading to some hilarious memes from Blizzard.

Blizzard offered fans a sneak peek at The Enigma as a potential hero, despite not being playable. They presented humorous mockups of his abilities and even edited an image in the hero gallery.

Although fans found these amusing fake abilities for John Cena enjoyable, it remains uncertain if he will appear outside of the Invasion marketing campaign.

Former WWE superstar and popular actor John Cena has been unveiled as Overwatch 2's Enigma, delighting fans and inspiring a multitude of memes. Blizzard wasted no time in creating a fake hero kit and showcasing The Enigma in the hero gallery, resulting in a collection of exceptional Overwatch 2 jokes.

Recently, Blizzard generated hype for their massive Season 6 update through various means, including a Sojourn animated short, blog posts, and trailers. However, the Enigma marketing campaign stood out as particularly unique. Twitch streamers found themselves "hacked" by a mysterious entity known as the Enigma, revealing a brief video snippet of John Cena assuming the character's role. Regrettably, Cena will not be a playable character, and it remains uncertain if he will make appearances beyond the Invasion marketing campaign.

Blizzard has provided fans with a glimpse of what a playable Enigma could potentially be like, although the comedic mockups should not be taken seriously. In one image, The Enigma is featured in the hero gallery, joining the Damage lineup that includes popular characters such as Tracer and Ashe. Interestingly, his character portrait is intentionally missing, reinforcing the ongoing joke that John Cena is invisible. However, the highlight of the mockups lies in the fictitious ability lineup for Cena.

These imagined abilities for Cena are highly entertaining, with one incorporating his famous "You Can't See Me" taunt from his WWE days. Another ability showcases Cena's skill in distracting opponents through dancing, while an especially enjoyable imaginary ability involves him cancelling enemy Ultimates by blasting his theme song. Lastly, the meme "are you sure about that?" is transformed into a skill that nullifies all damage, making it clear that this hero would be extraordinarily overpowered if ever introduced.

Although it would have been more fitting for Overwatch 2's April Fool's update, a playable John Cena received positive feedback from many fans due to its extravagant design. While there is a possibility of Cena appearing in PvE missions or future marketing campaigns, these Invasion teasers might be the extent of his collaboration with Blizzard. In any case, the partnership has provided some comedic highlights for the developer.

While The Enigma's suggested abilities were meant purely for entertainment purposes, fans are eagerly anticipating more information about Overwatch 2's new Support hero. As Season 6 approaches, the wait for details should be coming to an end soon.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
