Overwatch 2: A Game-Changer with the Return of a Beloved OW1 Feature

Blizzard confirms that Overwatch 2 will reintroduce player levels, exciting the gaming community with the return of this beloved feature in the hero-shooter Get ready to level up and showcase your experience as you dive into the future update

Blizzard has officially announced that player levels will be reintroduced in Overwatch 2 through the Season 6 Invasion update on August 10. As the transition from the original Overwatch to its highly anticipated sequel took place, numerous beloved features were lost along the way. However, Blizzard has been gradually responding to fans' feedback by reintroducing some of these missing elements.

One such feature is the "On Fire" mechanism, which used to reward players for outstanding performance. Although the team initially decided to abandon the On Fire feature in Overwatch 2, remnants of it could still be seen in the game. The passionate Overwatch community expressed their desire to see the return of this iconic feature, and Blizzard has finally answered their call. The developers have brought back the On Fire system in Overwatch 2, making a few minor adjustments to enhance the gameplay experience.

In Overwatch 1, player levels were present but did not carry over to Overwatch 2. However, the introduction of a battle pass system and the removal of loot boxes in Overwatch 2 made player levels less significant. Nevertheless, fans who were disappointed with the absence of player levels will be pleased to know that they are making a comeback in Overwatch 2's Invasion update. Game director Aaron Keller confirmed that hero levels in Overwatch 2 will contribute to a player's overall level. These hero levels are a part of the new progression system implemented with the Season 6 Invasion update. Players will now have the opportunity to level up their favorite heroes and unlock emblems that can be further upgraded. This new system aims to reward players for their dedication to specific heroes, and it may also encourage players to explore and try out other heroes in the game's roster.

Blizzard is putting in maximum effort for the Overwatch 2 Season 6 update, hoping to entice former players back into the game. The inclusion of a new Support hero is expected to generate significant interest among fans. However, there is some bitterness surrounding how Blizzard is choosing to release the game's PvE content.

Recently, it was confirmed that players will have to pay $15 for the first three PvE story missions in Overwatch 2, despite it being marketed as a free-to-play game. As expected, this decision by Blizzard has angered many fans, but it appears that the company is unwilling to reconsider their stance.

Overwatch 2 is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
