Caution! Spoilers for Outlander season 7, episode 3 and the Outlander books ahead.
The significant death in episode 3 of Outlander season 7 led to a serious yet humorous conversation between Claire and Jamie regarding their burial desires. Jamie's joke subtly alluded to a storyline from the books involving him. Outlander season 7's visit to Scotland solidified its connection to the seventh book in the series, An Echo in the Bone. Additionally, Outlander has previously emphasized the dangers of traversing an ocean. In season 3, Jamie, Claire, and their family miraculously survived a shipwreck while journeying from Scotland to America.
Jamie's Theory On How He'll Die In Outlander Season 7 Is Similar To The Books
: Jamie's prediction about his death wasn't all that unlikely, considering the countless dangerous situations he and Claire found themselves in. Although Jamie's attempt at humor in Outlander season 7, episode 3 may have been a diversion from the current discussion, it held some truth. With the near occurrences of being "drowned, burnt, or left to rot in some battlefield" in the past six seasons of Outlander, it's not surprising that Claire and Lord John Grey believed Jamie met his end in such a manner as portrayed in An Echo in the Bone.Jamie believed he had died when he woke up after the battle of Culloden in the season 3 premiere of Outlander. However, in the case of his presumed death in An Echo in the Bone, it was not due to the inevitable battle of Culloden where death was a real risk, especially for Jamie, who was known as a supporter of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Instead, in the seventh book of Outlander, Jamie and Claire returned to America at different times. Claire had to return earlier to perform surgery on Fergus and Marsali's son, Henri-Christian.
Instead, months later, Jamie's journey back to America took place alongside his sister, who made the decision to accompany him following the tragic loss of her husband, Ian. Although it was widely known that they were scheduled to board the Euterpe and cross the ocean, they unfortunately missed the departure and set sail safely several days later. However, the alarming news of the Euterpe's sinking reached Lord John, Claire, and the Fraser family in America, causing them to believe that Jamie had perished. Despite this being a grave misunderstanding, Jamie's prediction in Outlander season 7, episode 3 proved to be accurate: even if he had indeed survived, it was more probable for him to meet his end at sea or in battle rather than in a peaceful manner.
Galbadon's 7th Outlander Book Doesn't Leave Jamie Dead For Long
The Frasers' belief that Jamie was dead didn't last long in An Echo in the Bone. The book concludes with Jamie's surprising appearance in Philadelphia and his discovery of what his family had thought had happened to him, conveyed by Fergus. However, the seventh installment of Outlander also sheds light on the challenges Claire faced. She was subjected to an investigation for espionage, leading Lord John Grey to marry her in order to protect her from arrest. Eventually, Jamie manages to reach Lord John's residence and stages a fake hostage situation to escape the redcoats. However, his fury towards Lord John is unleashed when he learns that Claire and John had slept together, as Jamie had believed himself dead and was tormented by grief.
Outlander's timeline in An Echo in the Bone remains clear without the use of time travel. However, Claire faces numerous story developments and dangers, leading to a deceptive and confusing conclusion in the seventh book. It is hoped that these elements will also contribute to an eventful and unpredictable seventh season of Outlander, culminating in touching reunions between Jamie and Claire.
