As Invincible Season 2 makes its debut, creator Robert Kirkman has reassured fans that the show's depiction of violence knows no bounds.
Superhero shows have been increasingly embracing the darker and more brutal sides of their characters, with series like The Boys and Invincible gaining immense popularity among fans.
Invincible, currently in its second season, revolves around Mark Grayson, an aspiring superhero who discovers a shocking truth about his father Omni-Man, Earth's most formidable being, harboring a sinister secret.
Creator Robert Kirkman promises that the show's intense and gruesome reputation, established in its first season with the annihilation of the Guardians of the Globe by Omni-Man, will persist, with no restrictions on depicting gore, to the anticipation of fans.
Speaking to Collider, Kirkman revealed that Amazon Prime, the platform streaming Invincible, has given the all-clear for the show to embrace its goriest moments.
Kirkman, unsurprisingly, was not surprised by this. He pointed out that Invincible does not go to the same extremes as The Boys, created by Eric Kripke. "If Prime ever gave us feedback, I would be astonished. We have never included anything as outrageous as having someone crawl inside a penis."
Kirkman stated that he tends to follow a more conservative approach, and any feedback from Prime usually revolves around ensuring all plot elements and storylines are adequately addressed. "They occasionally provide input, expressing concerns like 'this made me question something, and I'm worried that audiences will have the same question.' In those cases, we work on fixing it to avoid audience confusion."
Kirkman explains that while the violence portrayed in our content can be unconventional, we have intentionally kept a check on the extent of sexual content. This conscious decision has ensured that we face minimal issues in this regard, fostering a sense of unity within our team, which I find impressive.
With Prime now on board, viewers can anticipate a plethora of electrifying moments as the ongoing season rolls out more episodes. Furthermore, it appears that Kirkman is determined to maintain the show's intensity, even disregarding any pushback: "Prime has never requested any decrease in viewership, to which my response would be, 'go to hell.'" Invincible Season 2 promises to be even more intense and gruesome than its predecessor, with creator Robert Kirkman assuring fans that the show will break all limits when it comes to bloodshed and violence. This is great news for fans of the show, who have been eagerly anticipating the return of the series. The first season of Invincible was praised for its brutal and unflinching depiction of violence, and it seems that the second season will only up the ante.
Kirkman's comments about Amazon Prime's support for the show's violence are also encouraging. It's clear that Prime is willing to let Kirkman and his team push the boundaries of what is acceptable in a superhero show, and this will allow the show to reach its full potential. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy and over-the-top violence we'll see in Invincible Season 2.
