Nicolas Cage, an Academy Award-winning actor, has starred in a wide range of films throughout his career, spanning from indie projects to major blockbusters. However, it appears that his time in the film industry may be coming to a close. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Cage expressed that he believes he only has a handful of movies left in him. Feeling that he has said all he needs to say through his work in cinema, he has no plans to continue working extensively in film. "I feel that I have taken film performance as far as I can ... I want to be much more selective in my choices ... I want to exit on a high note," he stated.
At 59, Cage mentioned that he may have around 15 years left to live, but he's hoping for more. Regardless, he expressed his desire to prioritize spending time with his family at this point in his career.
During an interview with Uproxx, Cage, with a portfolio of over 100 films, revealed his interest in taking on a TV project in the future. He spoke about his fascination with immersive streaming and episodic television, citing an example from Breaking Bad where Bryan Cranston captivated audiences with a scene focused on a suitcase for an entire hour. "We don't have the luxury of time in a feature film, so perhaps television is the next natural progression for me. Only time will tell," he stated.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cage revealed that the reason he made numerous movies in the latter part of his career was to settle a $14 million back taxes debt with the IRS. "I chose to work my way out of it," he stated. Cage further explained that staying busy with work helps him maintain a healthier lifestyle, as having too much free time can lead to the temptation of unhealthy habits.
"I don't want to be the person who just sits by the pool and drinks mai tais and Dom Perignon," he stated. "I've been in that position during job transitions, and it's only enjoyable for a short time before you realize, 'I need to focus on my health.'"
Cage's upcoming film is Dream Scenario, a production by A24, where he portrays an average man who inexplicably begins appearing in the dreams of others.

As a hard fan of Nicolas Cage, I am both excited and a bit sad to hear about his plans to scale back his film career. On the one hand, I understand his desire to spend more time with his family and focus on his health. He has given us so many incredible performances over the years, and I am grateful for all the entertainment he has provided. On the other hand, I will miss seeing him on the big screen. He is such a talented actor, and I always look forward to his new projects.
I am particularly intrigued by his interest in pursuing television projects. I think he would be great in a long-form series, where he could really sink his teeth into a character. I can imagine him playing a complex antihero or a morally ambiguous villain. I think he would also be great in a comedy series, where he could show off his comedic chops. Whatever he chooses to do, I know I will be watching.
