Newcastle have signed Tino Livramento from Southampton for an initial £32m.
The Magpies have tied down Livramento, who came through Chelsea's academy, until 2028.
The 20-year-old full-back watched from the stands at St James' Park as Newcastle concluded their pre-season preparations with a convincing victory against Villarreal on Sunday.
Livramento is now Eddie Howe's third signing of the summer, joining Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes.
Southampton secured the services of Livramento from Chelsea during the summer of 2021, in exchange for a transfer fee of £5m. However, a devastating ACL injury sustained in April 2022 abruptly halted his notable breakthrough season, causing the young talent to endure a sidelining period exceeding a whole year.
Livramento made his long-awaited return to the field after a 392-day absence in a match against Brighton at the Amex Stadium - the very place where he sustained the injury. He entered the game as a substitute, marking one of his two appearances in the previous season.
