Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who stars as Ahsoka in Ahsoka series, hinted at a concealed history between her character and Rosario Dawson's Sabine Wren. Taking place nine years after the events of Star Wars Rebels, the live-action series will reunite the Ghost crew as they embark on a mission to pursue Grand Admiral Thrawn. While the team members went their separate ways after the Liberation of Lothal, Ahsoka must bring them back together in order to combat a growing threat to the New Republic. In an interview with SFX, Bordizzo mentioned that there are undisclosed experiences shared between Sabine and Ahsoka that viewers have yet to see.
Sabine holds a deep admiration for Ahsoka, viewing her as a valuable mentor. Over time, they have shared numerous experiences, some known and others undisclosed. Their paths often align, leading them to reunite and confront the unresolved issues and tensions they have faced. This reunion between the two characters promises to be intriguing and captivating.
What Happened In The Nine Years Between Rebels & Ahsoka?
Bordizzo's words imply that the Rebels epilogue sequence does not mark the first reunion of Sabine and Ahsoka since their days with the Phoenix squadron. Rather, it signifies their agreement to reconcile. The epilogue features Sabine's voice-over, revealing her decision to stay out of the Galactic Civil War in order to protect Lothal, and her current mission to locate Ezra. Meanwhile, Ahsoka's goal, as revealed in The Mandalorian, is to find and stop Grand Admiral Thrawn, highlighting the convergence of their ambitions.
However, there are unanswered questions for Ahsoka. If she and Sabine had met prior to the decision to leave Lothal, why did Ahsoka refrain from participating in the war? It is unlikely that she was stranded on Malachor for five years, considering her invaluable skills and wisdom that could have benefited the rebels. Following her unsettling experience in the World Between Worlds and the trauma of facing Darth Vader, it is understandable that Ahsoka would choose to explore the Force for some time. The origins of their tense relationship will be a significant focus in Ahsoka, presenting the opportunity for previously unimagined narratives.
