Brown Simpson, who was married to Simpson from 1985 to 1992, was tragically killed on June 12, 1994 outside her Los Angeles home. Simpson was later acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife and her friend Ron Goldman following a highly publicized 1995 trial.
However, in 1997, another jury unanimously found Simpson responsible for the wrongful deaths of Brown Simpson and Goldman in a civil lawsuit brought by Goldman's family. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages. Despite maintaining his innocence, by 2016, polls indicated that the majority of Americans believed he was guilty.
