Maya Hawke is making her animated feature film debut as a new character in Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2.
The Stranger Things actress, 25, will lend her voice to the character of Anxiety in the highly anticipated sequel to be released in June 2024. In the film's first teaser, which debuted on November 9, Joy (Amy Poehler) and the other emotions express their disapproval towards Anxiety and the other forthcoming changes.
"We can't believe how quickly our little girl is growing up, and everything seems to be going perfectly," Joy remarks in a voiceover, followed by a scene showcasing Riley, now 13 years old (originally voiced by Kaitlyn Dias), blowing out birthday candles with her parents.
Things don't stay peaceful for too long when a construction crew unexpectedly storms into the headquarters of the emotions, initiating renovations. One of the notable changes is the introduction of a revamped console board in a vibrant shade of orange.
"Orange? Who decided on the orange console?" Joy queries her companions. It is at this moment that the group becomes aware of Anxiety's presence, who admits, "Oh, my apologies. We were aiming to make a positive initial impact."
The trailer concludes on a cliffhanger, as Disgust (now voiced by Liza Lapira) asks Anxiety, “What do you mean ‘we?’”

Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black will reprise their roles as Sadness and Anger, while Mindy Kaling will be replaced by Lapira as the voice of Disgust. Tony Hale will take over the role of Fear, previously voiced by Bill Hader. Director Kelsey Mann hinted that Anxiety will play a significant role, explaining that it aligns with the inner workings of everyone's mind.
In the trailer, it was hinted that Anxiety is not the only new addition to Riley's emotions. The film's first official poster, which was also unveiled on Thursday, gives a glimpse of three other characters whose names and voice actors have not yet been disclosed.
In the original Inside Out, the story revolved around the different emotions within Riley's mind controlling her daily actions. When Sadness unintentionally transforms some of Riley's happy memories into sad ones, she and Joy embark on a mission to restore the memories before they are forever lost. Along the journey, Joy discovers that embracing all emotions, not just happiness, is the key to living a satisfying life.
