Netflix is preparing to release a new movie called Scoop, which delves into a royal scandal different from Princess Kate Middleton's ongoing disappearance drama.
The first trailer for Scoop has just been released on the streaming platform. The movie focuses on Prince Andrew's controversial interview with the BBC's Newsnight in 2019. Actress Billie Piper, playing producer Sam McAlister, kicks off the teaser by stating, "An hour of television can change everything." The trailer made its debut on Monday, March 18.
Rufus Sewell stars as Andrew, now 64, in serious prosthetics, while Gillian Anderson plays Newsnight anchor Emily Maitlis. The movie is inspired by McAlister's memoir, Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC's Most Shocking Interviews from 2023. McAlister's interview with Andrew ultimately resulted in his decision to step down from his royal duties.
"I've never been smuggled into a palace before," Anderson remarks as Maitlis.

The trailer suggests a link between Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein, who passed away in August 2019. Epstein was facing charges of sex trafficking of minors at the time of his death. In the following months, Andrew's BBC interview aired, leaving more questions than answers about his association with Epstein.
In the teaser, Sewell, portraying Andrew, expresses his thoughts on the interview by saying, "You know, I thought that all went very well."

Andrew stated during the interview that he had no memory of ever meeting Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who accused Epstein of forcing her to have relations with Andrew when she was a teenager. Although he refuted Giuffre's accusations, Andrew expressed no remorse for his association with Epstein. He also sparked controversy by asserting that he could not have been "sweating profusely" on the dance floor with Giuffre (as she alleged) due to a medical condition that prevents him from sweating after experiencing an adrenaline overdose during the Falklands War.

Shortly after the interview was shown, Prince Andrew decided to "step back from public duties" with his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II's approval. In May 2020, he made the decision to permanently resign from all public roles. Unfortunately, Elizabeth later removed his royal patronages and military titles in early 2022. (Prince Andrew is the third child of Elizabeth, who passed away in September 2022, and Prince Philip, who passed away in April 2021.)
Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Andrew in 2021, alleging sexual assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Andrew refuted all the claims made against him. They reached a settlement out of court in February 2022.
Catch Scoop on Netflix starting Friday, April 5.
