On Saturday night, five individuals sustained injuries in a shooting incident that took place during a motorcycle rally in Galveston, Texas. According to Officer Kurt Koopmann, a spokesperson for the Galveston Police Department, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. local time in The Strand, a renowned historic district where a large crowd had gathered for the Lone Star Rally.

The five gunshot victims have been transported to a local trauma center for medical treatment, according to Koopmann. Koopmann also mentioned that one individual, who is considered a person of interest, has been detained but not yet charged. The incident is currently being investigated.

It is not clear what events led to the shooting or how many individuals were involved in firing their weapons.

According to Koopmann, the rally had attracted a significant number of law enforcement officers to the vicinity. This presence facilitated a prompt response from first responders.

According to its Facebook page, the Lone Star Rally is touted as the biggest four-day motorcycle rally in North America. The organizers stated that an influx of hundreds of thousands of individuals is expected on the island this weekend.

In a statement on Facebook, the Galveston Police informed the public that an ongoing police investigation is taking place in the area, resulting in the closure of the street between 21st to 23rd Streets. They further explained that motorcycles and other belongings in that vicinity must remain undisturbed until the investigation concludes.

Galveston is an island city on the Gulf Coast of Texas, about 50 miles from Houston.
