A dedicated police officer in Signal seeks assistance from a detective from a different era, heightening the mystery of a cold case that defies the bounds of time. Recent rumors suggest that the highly acclaimed crime K-drama might potentially receive a Season 2.
In 2016, Lee Je-hoon, renowned for his role in Taxi Driver, portrayed the character of Park Hae-young, a criminal profiler and Lieutenant in Signal. Hae-young continues to be haunted by a distressing event from his past, where he was a witness to the abduction and subsequent death of a friend. Despite his account of seeing a woman responsible, the authorities dismissed his claims, insisting it was a male perpetrator.
Investigating the young boy's disappearance, Hae-young unexpectedly hears Detective Jae-han's voice through a walkie-talkie. It dawns on him that the person on the other end is none other than Detective Jae-han from the year 2000. Joining forces, the two detectives utilize the walkie-talkie to uncover valuable clues leading to the true identity of the killer.
Fans of Signal passionately embraced the series and eagerly awaited a Season 2, yet the show appeared to be stagnant. However, the beloved K-drama has now tantalized fans with a glimpse of the long-awaited crime thriller.
Tunnel Season 2 is in the works
On X (Twitter), a K-drama fan account quoted another tweet explaining Signal writer Kim Eun-hee recently confirmed a Season 2.
The initial tweet, featuring a conference snapshot of Kim, has been removed, however, the quoted tweet discloses that the author disclosed the development of Season 2 and its imminent release. It remains uncertain whether the original cast will make a comeback.
Signal received high acclaim for drawing inspiration from notorious Korean murder cases, such as the Hwaseong serial murders.
According to Koreaboo, the production of Signal Season 2 commenced after the completion of the first season. Originally set to debut in 2018, the start of filming was postponed to 2019. The second season was later put on hold indefinitely. Actor Lee also expressed his eagerness to make a comeback.
Fans were ecstatic upon hearing the announcement of Season 2. In response, one fan expressed their happiness, stating, "This tweet has made me incredibly happy. The first part left us with numerous unanswered questions and unresolved plot points. I'm hopeful that the second season will provide clarity on how the hero received a signal from the past and what transpired after the climax. Did she finally meet her man? I can't contain my excitement to see how it all unfolds."
One fan exclaimed, "Finally, after all these years!" Many others are optimistic that the news is completely accurate and also anticipate the return of the original cast. For now, fans will eagerly await an official announcement from tvN regarding the airing of the K-drama.
