Mortal Kombat 12, the newest addition to the popular fighting game franchise, has been officially named Mortal Kombat 1. The game is set to launch on September 19, and fans have been eagerly anticipating its release for months. Leaks about the game have been circulating online, revealing some of the game's finer details prior to the release of its official trailer.

One of the most significant leaks was the news that Mortal Kombat 12 would be a reboot of the series. This information was later confirmed by the official trailer, which not only revealed the game's story details and release date, but also unveiled eight of the characters that will make up the game's roster when it launches in September.

On September 19, Mortal Kombat enthusiasts will have the opportunity to play as eight of the series' most recognizable characters. These include Kitana, Kung Lao, Fire God Liu Kang, Mileena, Raiden, Scorpion, Shang Tsung (available as a pre-order bonus), and Sub-Zero. While additional characters are expected to make an appearance on the Mortal Kombat 12 roster, fans will need to wait for further official announcements before finding out who they are.

The Mortal Kombat 11 trailer confirms the playable characters for Mortal Kombat 1 and provides insight into the game's story. The canon ending for the Aftermath expansion sees Liu Kang creating a new universe, but despite his victory over Shang Tsung, the villain has mysteriously returned in the new game.

The Mortal Kombat 1 trailer may not showcase any gameplay, but it offers a glimpse of what Fatalities could entail. The trailer culminates in a barrage of extreme and gory violence, portraying Mortal Kombat 1 characters being disemboweled in the most brutal ways imaginable. Fortunately, Mortal Kombat enthusiasts won't have to wait until September to experience the game. A beta version will be accessible in August for those who pre-order on PlayStation and Xbox, even though the specifics haven't been announced yet. It's uncertain when more information regarding Mortal Kombat 1 will be disclosed, but there are some significant events coming up. Sony is hosting a PlayStation exhibit on May 24, while Xbox is organizing its event on June 11. It's not unlikely to see the game showcased at one or both of these events, but fans should manage their expectations in case it doesn't make an appearance.
