Chris Pratt continues to make his mark in the voice acting industry, this time taking on the role of the lasagna-loving orange cat, Garfield. It seems like Pratt is becoming a regular feature in animated franchises, appearing in films such as the Lego Movie franchise and even the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. Whether you love or hate it, Pratt's voice is certainly making waves in the world of animation.
However, Pratt's vocal performance has once again faced resistance from viewers, especially those on social media platforms.
The Garfield trailer has dropped, and Twitter isn’t happy
Today, the long-awaited trailer for the animated Garfield movie has been released, featuring a star-studded cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, and Bowen Yang.
Watch the trailer below to see the wild outdoor adventure of Garfield, the famous indoor cat who hates Mondays and loves lasagna. In this hilarious and high-stakes heist, Garfield and his canine companion Odie are reluctantly forced to join Garfield's long-lost father, the scruffy street cat Vic, in a surprising reunion that changes their perfectly pampered lives.
But of course, it’s Chris Pratt’s casting as Garfield that has caused the biggest stir, with his name even trending on X (formerly Twitter).
Many users expressed discontent in these tweets regarding Chris Pratt once again lending his voice to an animated character. They pointed out that he seldom changes his regular voice to match the character, leading to disappointment. One user lamented, "I forgot that Chris Pratt casting wasn't a joke..." Another user commented, "Why is Chris Pratt not even acting? He's just speaking in his normal voice. It's like there wasn't even an effort made." However, some individuals found humor in the situation. Zane Schnacht made a joke, saying, "If I had a nickel for every time Chris Pratt voiced the main character in an animated adaptation of a long-running intellectual property that inexplicably added a daddy issues plot, I'd have two nickels."

However, there were a few individuals who stood up for Pratt, with one expressing, "Personally, I never understood why everyone was so bothered by it. Chris's natural voice strongly resembles that of Garfield, hence it is not surprising that he effortlessly aced the role!"
Amidst the discussions, a few individuals took a lighthearted approach, with a user humorously remarking, "There's something perplexing about Garfield's voice resembling Chris Pratt or Chris Pratt seemingly adopting Garfield's voice as an afterthought."
Either way, Pratt’s voice will not be the sole defining factor of the quality of the film, so we’ll have to judge it on its own merits when the movie comes out.
Garfield will laze his way into cinemas on May 24, 2024.

Editor's P/S
As an enthusiastic fan, I have mixed feelings about Chris Pratt's portrayal of Garfield in the new trailer. On the one hand, I appreciate the fact that Pratt is bringing his own unique style to the role, rather than trying to imitate the iconic voice of the original Garfield cartoon. On the other hand, I can understand why some fans are disappointed that Pratt's voice doesn't quite match the Garfield they grew up with.
Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic about Pratt's performance as Garfield. I think he has the potential to bring something new and exciting to the character, while still staying true to the spirit of the original. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Pratt's Garfield in the upcoming film.
