Pedro Pascal's popularity has soared with his roles in The Last of Us and The Mandalorian. However, the news of him potentially playing Mr. Fantastic has not generated excitement among fans. The Fantastic Four franchise has struggled since its 2005 film and its subsequent sequel, failing to establish itself as a dominant force in the superhero genre. A 2015 reboot was widely derided as one of the worst superhero movies ever made. However, with Marvel now reclaiming the rights to Fantastic Four following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2017, there is renewed hope for the franchise.
Marvel's post-Avengers: Endgame transformation and expansion of the universe has left fans eagerly anticipating the handling of Fantastic Four. Casting calls have attracted renowned names, sparking ongoing speculation about who will play Reed Richard/Mr. Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among these reports, the Chilean actor Pedro Pascal has emerged as a possible candidate for the role, generating excitement among fans.
Pedro Pascal isn’t a top choice among fans
Fans were left bewildered when unverified rumors circulated on social media, suggesting that Pedro Pascal had been offered the part of Mr. Fantastic. Many found it hard to envision the talented actor as a suitable choice for the role.
Pedro joins a highly discussed lineup of actors being considered for the role, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Adam Driver, and Glenn Howerton. They are part of an illustrious selection that notably features John Krasinski, who portrayed the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Reed Richards, the leader of the Fantastic Four, is renowned for his incredible intellectual accomplishments. He possesses expertise in mechanical, aerospace, and electrical engineering, as well as chemistry, multiple branches of physics, and both human and alien biology.
According to fans on X (Twitter), Pedro doesn’t fit the bill despite being a well-loved actor.
A fan expressed, "I have deep admiration for Pedro, but it seems like they didn't put much effort into it."
Another individual shared their opinion, stating, "While I adore Pedro Pascal in the MCU, I believe they should consider casting someone else for Reed Richards. I personally think Pedro would be a great fit for one of the original X-men."
A fan suggested that Marvel should stop hiring well-known actors and instead focus on discovering lesser-known talents. The fan pointed out that even Chris Evans was not a big Hollywood star before taking on the role of Captain America.
"I'm not really on board with this idea. The chosen actor already carries a lot of baggage from their previous iconic roles. It would be better if Reed had a fresh and unique feel. We've seen enough typical Hollywood heartthrobs, it's becoming too predictable. I personally prefer Diego Luna," expressed the fan.
While one fan may not be entirely enthusiastic about Pascal being cast as Mr. Fantastic, Marvel has repeatedly surprised and exceeded fan expectations in the past. Fans eagerly anticipate an official announcement from Marvel. The highly anticipated release of Fantastic Four is scheduled for May 2, 2025. For more TV & Movies news, visit Dexerto. Editor's P/S
As a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I have mixed feelings about the rumors that Pedro Pascal is being considered for the role of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four film. On the one hand, I am a big fan of Pascal's work, and I think he has the acting chops to pull off the role. He has shown that he can handle both dramatic and comedic roles, and he has the charisma to lead a team of superheroes.
On the other hand, I am not sure if Pascal is the right fit for the character of Reed Richards. In the comics, Reed is a brilliant scientist and inventor, and he is often seen as the leader of the Fantastic Four. Pascal is a great actor, but I am not sure if he has the right look or demeanor to play a character like Reed Richards. I would have preferred someone like John Krasinski, who has already played Reed Richards in the MCU, or someone like Glenn Howerton, who has the comedic chops to pull off the role.
Ultimately, I will have to wait and see what Marvel does with the character of Reed Richards. I am sure that they will make the right decision, and I am excited to see what they do with the Fantastic Four franchise.
