Gary Woodland, the US Open champion, recently underwent a lengthy operation on Monday to eliminate a significant portion of the lesion. This diagnosis was disclosed by Woodland himself in a post on August 30th.

The 39-year-old native of Kansas, who was diagnosed a few months ago, tried medication to manage the symptoms before opting for surgery. Following his last competitive appearance at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina in early August, Woodland will now take a break for recovery.

"At this time, the family requests space and privacy to be together," Mondays post added.

"Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers as he gets started on the road to recovery."

In 2019, Harry How/Getty Images captured the remarkable moment when Woodlands, a four-time PGA Tour champion, achieved the pinnacle of his 16-year professional career at Pebble Beach. In a breathtaking performance, he outshined his compatriot Brooks Koepka, securing a three-shot victory and securing his first-ever major title, the prestigious US Open.

That marks his most recent win on the PGA Tour, though he has finished twice inside the top-10 this season and ranked 74th in the world after his tied-27th finish at the Wyndham Championship.
