Valorant dataminers have discovered that the popular tactical shooter may soon be available on consoles. Riot Games has previously acknowledged this possibility, and it seems that it is now becoming a reality.
Created by Riot Games, Valorant was initially released exclusively for Windows in the middle of 2020. It is a free-to-play first-person multiplayer shooter that draws inspiration from Counter-Strike. Despite facing criticism for toxic behavior within its community and the instability of its anti-cheating software, Valorant has generally been well-received. It has gained significant attention, becoming the second most-watched game on Twitch at one point, and winning the award for Best Esports Game at the Game Awards last year. As of May 2023, its Discord server is the second-largest gaming community and the fifth-largest overall community on the platform.
Valorant dataminer @valohabercisi has reported that Riot Games is planning to expand the popular team-based shooter from being exclusive to PC and bring it to consoles. The Nintendo Switch was not specifically mentioned, but the game is expected to be released on Microsoft's Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. Cross-generation ports are also in consideration for Xbox One and PS4. It is worth noting that no further details were provided by the user, but Valorant Updates, who initially reported the information, shared a link showing that Riot Games is currently hiring a playtester.
The job posting specifically mentions that the developer is seeking someone who can evaluate the "upcoming gameplay experiences" for Valorant. The ideal candidate should have professional experience in playing console shooter games, be able to give valuable advice on optimizing the game for console platforms, and hold a ranking of Immortal or higher in Valorant. Other standard requirements for the position include strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, a minimum of one year of software quality assurance experience, and the capability to assess players' stress levels by checking their pulse.
Rumors about Valorant becoming multiplatform have been circulating since spring 2022. One of the recent rumors even provided evidence through a job posting. This second instance of rumors further supports the notion that Valorant may become accessible to console gamers in the near future. However, other than the intention to optimize these ports, no additional information is currently available. It is possible that the new console versions may include all the content, moderation improvements, and other adjustments from the previously released seasons. Only time will tell until an official announcement is made to the public.
Please note that Valorant is currently only available on PC.
