Why I Am Groot Is One Of Only 3 MCU Shows With A Second Season
: In addition to the fresh footage, it has been officially announced that the series is scheduled to premiere on September 6, 2023. Consequently, this signifies that it will be available an entire month prior to the debut of Loki season 2 in October.
The release of season 2 of Marvel Studios Disney+ animated shorts marks the latest in a series of changes within MCU Phase 5. The Multiverse, as a whole, has undergone numerous scheduling adjustments due to various factors, including the impact of the coronavirus pandemic which significantly delayed the start of MCU's post-Infinity Saga storytelling. Since then, production hurdles have also played a role in Kevin Feige's decisions to either alter the order of project releases or postpone a substantial portion of the lineup.
Since the beginning of Phase 4 with WandaVision, Disney+ has become an essential platform for Marvel Studios' storytelling. Their latest release, Secret Invasion, is the franchise's 10th small-screen offering. However, only three shows have been confirmed for second seasons - I Am Groot, Loki, and Marvel Studios' What If...? Of these, I Am Groot is more likely to continue due to its shorter, episodic, and primarily isolated storytelling, as well as its animated format.
It's important to note that I Am Groot aligns with Disney's traditional branding of children-friendly shows. While its events are considered canon, they do not have a significant impact on the overall storytelling of the Multiverse Saga, unlike Loki season 2. Instead, it serves as an enjoyable watch for both MCU enthusiasts and, more importantly, for kids who are familiar with the lovable hero from Guardians of the Galaxy.
