Summary
Foundation season 3 will feature a 150-year time jump, according to David S. Goyer, the co-creator and showrunner of the ambitious sci-fi series.
Rewriting: Goyer finds the task of adapting Isaac Asimov's work challenging, particularly the significant time leap involved in the process. To navigate the anthology nature of the source material and introduce fresh characters and storylines, the show has previously employed time jumps, notably beginning with a 138-year leap in season 2.
David S. Goyer has confirmed that there will be a time jump in Foundation season 3. In an interview with Collider, Goyer, the co-creator and showrunner, discussed how the show will navigate a 150-year leap into the future, which he considers a significant challenge in adapting Isaac Asimov's stories.
The biggest challenge in adapting Robyn's father's work is the anthology-like nature of this book, which consists of short stories with no recurring characters. It is difficult to work around this aspect, especially when trying to create a 1000-year story that is not an anthology. However, it was important to have familiar faces to connect with the audience throughout the centuries. To address this, we introduced the character of Hari Seldon in the prequels, and also created a genetic dynasty and a robot character. These elements allowed us to present similar faces to the Empire, even though they are different characters. Additionally, we utilized cryo sleep to have Gaal sleep through the centuries. This was the main challenge we faced in adapting Foundation, and previous iterations may provide more insight.

What The 150-Year Time Jump Means For Foundation Season 3
Official renewal for season 3 of Foundation is pending, hinging on Apple TV+'s commitment amidst ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Notwithstanding, Goyer remains optimistic about the show's future, with elaborate plans for forthcoming storylines. Notably, the ending of Foundation season 2 featured a remarkable 152-year leap, wherein Gaal Dornick (portrayed by Lou Llobell) enters cryosleep and awakens during the intense war between the Foundation and the Empire. The finale also distinctly establishes The Mule as the primary antagonist for season 3.
Foundation season 2 opens with a 138-year time jump, showcasing the series' propensity for significant leaps in time. David S. Goyer, the show's creator, explains that this is necessary when adapting a collection of short stories with few recurring characters. To address the anthology-like nature of the source material, the show introduces robotic characters and creates the Genetic Dynasty, governed by three clones of Cleon – Brother Dawn, Brother Day, and Brother Dusk, all portrayed by Lee Pace. Additionally, cryosleep is cleverly employed as a narrative tool to transport Gaal across centuries.
