Sarah Shahi is adding her voice to the discussion about onscreen prosthetics following concerns from Sex/Life fans regarding Adam Demos' use of one in the show's explicit scenes. On Saturday, June 24, the 43-year-old actress shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set, revealing her preparation to wear prosthetic breasts in the series.

"These were not my own breasts. Our prosthetics team spent approximately 3 to 4 hours every morning applying them. I wore them during any sex scene with Cooper or when it was necessary to depict breastfeeding," she explained in the caption of her Instagram Story post. "As you can see, the silicone glue is right there."

Shahi further clarified her decision to use prosthetics in certain scenes in a direct Instagram message to Amanda Hirsch, the host of the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast.

"The Person of Interest alum, who has three children with ex-husband Steve Howey, referred to the Cooper sex scenes, the portrayal of her character's changing body, and the importance of the Brad scenes in the past. The TV show Sex/Life, which aired from 2021 to 2023, revolved around Billie (Shahi), a suburban mother who questions her marriage to Cooper (Mike Vogel). In her journey of self-discovery, Billie writes about her past relationship with Brad (Demos) and eventually reunites with him."

Shahi commended the show for its empowering portrayal of sexuality on screen. In an exclusive interview with We in June 2021, she expressed her belief that sex scenes in films and television often cater to the male perspective, unless it's a lesbian production. She saw the show as a chance to challenge this narrative and present female sexuality through the lens of women themselves. Shahi viewed it as a powerful statement, showcasing women as empowered and sensual beings.

Sex/Life became a phenomenon in popular culture, thanks in part to Demos' unforgettable shower scene. This pivotal moment unfolded in the first season, as Billie's husband Cooper trailed Brad to the gym. Eventually, Cooper – along with the viewers – caught a fleeting glimpse of Brad's anatomy when he stepped into the shower after his workout.

The official Twitter account of the show shared the NSFW scene's official script pages in July 2021. The script mentioned Cooper involuntarily looking at Brad's package, the object that brought so much pleasure to his wife. Cooper's worst fears are realized as he glances back at Brad, feeling like even more of an underdog and guilty for his actions.

Demos, 38, and the creator of the series, Stacy Rukeyser, were initially ambiguous when questioned about the iconic shower moment of his character. The Australian actor confirmed earlier this year that a prosthetic was utilized.

“Yes [it is a prosthetic]. That just makes you feel better. Also, to all the men out there who were worried, it was,” Demos, who is currently dating Shahi, told The Project TV in March.
