Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Secret Invasion episode 64 years after Avengers: Endgame changed the MCU forever, Marvel continues to unveil information about the Russos' Infinity Saga conclusion. Following the revelation of the Avengers DNA twist in episode 5 of Secret Invasion, the finale of Nick Fury's supposed "last stand" had a significant impact on Endgame. Despite 22 MCU releases since Endgame, the story remains at the forefront of Marvel's universe.
In Secret Invasion episode 6, G'iah, played by Emilia Clarke, and the Super-Skrull villain Gravik, portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir, engage in a sometimes humorous final battle utilizing the enhanced superpowers granted to them through Fury's Avengers DNA serum. A total of at least 22 new superpowers were confirmed, establishing G'iah as the most formidable hero in the MCU. This is due to Nick Fury acquiring the DNA of 18 Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and other super-powered individuals (including Thanos) following Earth's ultimate conflict against Josh Brolin's Mad Titan. Among these heroes and villains, two names stand out as new additions to Endgame's climactic battle.
Ghost & Abomination Confirmed To Have Appeared At Endgame's Battle of Earth
Both Hannah John-Kamen's Ava Starr (known as Ghost) and Tim Roth's Abomination (also named Emil Blonksy) appeared at the Battle of Earth, despite not being among the 36 characters confirmed for Endgame's final battle. After the Avengers defeated Thanos, their DNA was harvested, and it has been retroactively confirmed that both Ghost and Abomination were among the defenders of Earth. Ghost's presence can be explained easily, as Ant-Man & The Wasp shows her becoming aligned with Scott Lang after being healed by Janet Van Dyne. It can be assumed that she answered the call for help from Earth's heroes along with Hope Van Dyne's Wasp. However, it is revealed in Secret Invasion that the phasing powers Ghost appeared to have been healed from in Ant-Man & The Wasp actually permanently altered her genetically. In a confrontation with Gravik, G'iah utilizes Ghost's powers to evade a car thrown at her.
Secret Invasion's Harvest Posed Several Questions
The character known as Abomination adds a layer of confusion, but it appears that his previous invitation to join the Avengers, which was shown in Phil Coulson's Marvel One Shot The Consultant, was indeed fulfilled when he came to fight Thanos' army. This development sheds light on his redemption arc that was being set up in She-Hulk, making it more logical. It may also provide an explanation as to why Wong was genuinely convinced that there was some goodness left in Abomination. One significant event is when Abomination transfers one of the numerous super strength and durability powers to the Super-Skrull/Super-Avengers serum. Furthermore, during his encounter with G'iah, Gravik can be observed transforming into Blonsky's Abomination form.
The initial reveal of the Avengers DNA Harvest by Nick Fury left everyone stunned. However, it was not until the final episode of Secret Invasion that the true extent of Fury's actions was brought to light. By harnessing the DNA of numerous powerful heroes and villains, Fury effectively developed the blueprint for Earth's strongest defender, rendering the Avengers somewhat obsolete. While Fury's drastic measures were driven by his concerns for Earth's safety, the emergence of the Avengers DNA poses more questions than it provides answers.
How did Thanos' DNA remain after he was dusted?
Why does Fury call it "Avengers DNA" when it has villains and Guardians and other superpowered individuals unaffiliated with the hero group?
Where were Ghost and Abomination hiding during the battle? Why didn't Hulk react to Blonsky's presence?
When did all of the heroes actually bleed during the battle?
Did Rhodey become a Skrull in Civil War? If so, why wasn't his Skrull DNA detected during the Harvest by Fury's radar?
Why do Ghost and Winter Soldier go by their derogatory nicknames instead of using their actual names, Ava Starr and Bucky Barnes?
Why is Bucky's DNA even there, when Captain America's is already included?
Where are Black Panther, Nebula, and Scarlet Witch's DNA samples? They are genetically altered heroes too.
Who informed Nick Fury about the identities of Corvus Glaive, Cull Obsidian, and Proxima Midnight? Amidst the perplexity, apart from the events of Endgame, there is also the issue of how Marvel manages to incorporate a hero as mighty as G'iah into their films, as they have faced challenges in maintaining a balance with exceptionally powerful characters thus far. This particular dilemma is unlikely to be resolved in the near future.
